Winter is coming

We simply have not had a winter on this side of the country. When this thread was first posted we were seeing for about a week record lows usually around -7 C and the days a few degrees above freezing with a large majority of the northern valley being covered in snow. Now its 16 C days and 5 C nights. Winter is not supposed to be t-shit weather. It gets worse though, the mountains (Lake Tahoe) has seen next to no snow and as a result our rivers are drying up and Folsom Lake has dried up to much that the old gold rush town that was flooded by the Folsom Dam has surface. Not only is it warm as fuck but now we have a drought to worry about.

Fuck me.

The past week was complete hell.

Last Thursday our house ran out of heating oil. Dumped 5 gallons of kero in the tank to hold us over. The very next night, our septic was frozen on top and blocking a baffle in there which was causing our water to backup into the pipes and explode-leak all inside the wall/floor/crawl space. In the snow storm, nonetheless. Got that sorted. Then 5 more gallons of kero the next day, then I left for Philly for work. Day later, we're out of heat again. 5 more gallons of kero (oil delivery couldn't be made till today). Today, get oil, I'm still in Philly, roomate calls telling me the furnace is leaking and apparently the house was 40 degrees this morning. A pipe had frozen and burst.

FUCK living on a mountain. Fuck it hard. $550 for 150 gallons of oil (minimum order) every 2 months-ish. $172 electric bill last month. Just. Insane. =/

i'm shittin' my pants waiting for the next heating bill. probably have to take out a second mortgage... i'm usually pretty stubborn when it comes to raising the thermostat, but fuck man, i just got pissed one day and said fuck it. raised it all the way to 72! whooo ya! lol.. happiest day yet this winter. could actually feel my hands and the fretboard!

It's actually quite insane. We've only been living here for a little over 2 months and we bought a pretty boss space heater for our living room, but our first month electric was $90 without the heater, second month was $172 with the heater. Living room is HUGE, open, high ceilings, drafty windows/doors/fireplace (that doesn't work). Thermostat set to 64 pretty much constantly and it's still a bit chilly in there without a long sleeve or hoodie.

I cannot express enough how much I fucking hate winter time. At least we have a snowblower.....
