Wolf - The Black Flame

Over the weekend I made a visit to the Disc Exchange in Knoxville, TN and picked up a disc from the band Wolf called The Black Flame. I've overheard conversations about this band during ProgPower weekend, plus a few people have mentioned the band on various threads throughout the year. To be honest, I was a little skeptic going into this cd, because I wasn't really expecting much. With that said, during the first track I realized that this was sounding like a top tier power metal release. Everything from the vocals, musicanship and production is first class! I love the lyrics as well, because I'm thinking these guys dig horror movies to an extent. It's kind of appropriate for this time of year! :) If you like powermetal at all, then I highly recommend this release, especially to those of you like myself that are down with the Sabaton stuff.

Meet me! In the graveyard! When the clock strikes! Midnight!

I love that album. Their new one (Ravenous?) is due shortly. Evil Star and Black Wings are also good, and their debut sounds like a lost Neat Records album from 1980. Great, great metal band.

I also saw Wolf at the BWBK fest, they are very kick ass, have them all, but Black Wings is still my fave. Their new one is due out in a week and a half, Ravenous! And yeah, seeing Candlemass and Trouble there was the cats meow!!!!!!

I'd put them in this order:

1. Black Wings
2. Evil Star
3. The Black Flame
4. S/T

The only thing I've heard of theirs was their debut, which was complete Maiden worship. Have they progressed beyond that?

Zod

Their first album was complete Maiden worship. Their second album was partial Maiden worship. After that they of course continued to be influenced by Iron Maiden (as all power metal bands are), but they moved away from the direct Maiden worship.
