Let me introduce you to......

A rather funny and usually offensive look by car enthusiast at the world of car modding.

My favorite quote from there..."The VW is a"track car' as in you can take it to the track and park it up along side the other cars in the hope someone will say "nice car mate' ".

I've seen websites that post pictures and add captions that bash those overdone, more furious than fast, ill-thought out kinds of cars, but never an entire dedicated forum. Thats awesome! And they even have a section for flame wars and fights!

Thanks guys. I didn't set out to build a magazine worthy car, but its still nice to be noticed for your efforts. Here's the kicker though...I'm selling it so I can buy one of these...

And before you ask, its a "want" kind of thing, not a "need"...lol

I LOVE my Volvo! They're tanks and handle so beautifully. And they go forever! Are you getting a 'real' one? :p

VOLVO??????

OMFG, in the UK the only people that drive VOLVO's are coffin dodgers!

They are hideous, boxes on wheels. Not to mention VERY expensive to maintain in the UK.

One question, do the US versions have the headlights on all the time?

Mind you I drive a Vauxhall (Opel) Vectra
Same as this one:

Just cost me £400 cos the front left shocker spring sheared!!!! GFot it fixed yesterday and it drives like new, but I am on the look out for a new car......cheaper on fuel, that thing costs me £45 a week in petrol.

Aja: What do you mean by "real"? I'm looking at either the 2 series (pictured) in either the sedan or wagon, or a 7 or 9 series. The 8's are front wheel drive and thats not what I'm after.

Timewarrior: Yeah I know the Volvo's don't really scream "performance", but you can do really great things with the turbo versions. I went and met up with some of the local Volvo guys and was really impressed with what those cars are capable of. Plus, there are parts everywhere around here for cheap, if you know where to look.

Most popular volvo over in blighty for performance is the T5 or the 440 turbo.

I would rather look at SAAB, especially their Turbo models.

All the Volvos through 1992 were made in Sweden and then they sold the company to Ford. So to some of the more hardcore Volvo enthusiasts anything from 1993 on isn't a 'real' Volvo, it's a Ford!

You're lucky that you can do your own car work - parts and labor are really expensive here in the US as well. But the safety factor was one the main reason I just love that car. Especially here in SoCal where it always seems that the dominant theme on the freeways are aggro meets crazy!

Timewarrior: the T5 is bad ass, but out of my price range. Oddly enough, I really don't care for the Saab styling. The half round hatch turns me off.

Metallicat: Clarkson rules! How I wish they would broadcast Top Gear here in the states. Waaaaay better than that Road & Track garbage we have.

Aja: The model year really doesn't matter to me too much, I'm not that anal about it. Oddly enough, the best engines to have if your going to hot rod one is '91 thru '96. Dubbed "red blocks", they were one of the strongest Volvo ever made.

And yeah, doing your own work saves tons of cash. I really think that everyone should have some sort of basic automotive knowledge. However, in this day and age, and considering the complexity of today's cars, I don't know how much good it would do you...but it makes the old ones a lot more fun!

See, they can look good!

Do they not show it on BBC America? I love Top Gear soooooooo much!!!! Richard Hammond is my favourite of the 3 presenters tho, when him and Jeremy start arguing, it cracks me up!! Then they both gang up on James, poor bugger he is!!

Atleast know how to check fluids and change a tire! My girlfriend recently mentioned her car made a squeek when she turns the wheel. Well, did you check the power steering fluid? She didn't know a thing under the hood. So, I had her pop the hood open and showed her where all that stuff is and how to check it. The PS fluid was low. We filled it and problem solved. Very simple stuff some people just have no knowledge on. I remember a college friend that didn't even know how to change a tire. I remember them getting a book "How to change tires for Dummies."

Congrats on the publication! I never made it that far with my cars, but then again I never tried :erk:
