Heh. I knew I was going to get a lot of shit for my post.
And Delain got a pretty damn good reaction when they played, as I'm sure Amaranthe will.
Has anyone really got a bad reaction? Well, other than people not staying in the room. Festival goers here are generally supportive, which makes for a great festival.
Was there an announcement made somewhere that I missed that said, "Today is the day to be a total fucking asshole to Glenn on the forum?" Did I miss the "You can be a douchebag for free today because you don't agree with a band selection?"
So, I'm an asshole for expressing my opinion? I'll have to remember that.
Look man, I'm not always going to agree with you. It doesn't mean I won't support you. But, support isn't blind support. Personally, I'm really on the fence about next year, partially due to other potential commitments.
I get that you don't like every band. However, "but sometimes"....I put up with some of the biggest prick comments ever. For your information, Delain has sold just as many, if not more albums than any band that I have had in that slot or below at the time on an album to album ratio. They also have had the longest signing session of the past five years (1 hr,40 minutes per my staff update as of 8:13pm tonight- thanks Keith). You don't like them. Others do.
Amaranthe are blowing the fuck up all over the world with the U.S. territory being the last in line. Hell, at one point, they ranked higher than Lady Gaga in Japan on the international artist charts.
I get that. I know why they are here. It doesn't mean I have to like that reason.
Superior is your bitter pill? Holy shit. I love the band, but you do realize they only sold a handful of albums and never properly toured as anything other than an opening band in Europe? They had a cult status and nothing more. Hell, if we are going on discography numbers, then Virgin Steele or Rage should have packed the place instead of playing to 1/2 full floors.
Obviously they weren't, which is why they are no more. I just wanted more than just a 45 minute set for a band that had three albums worth of material and one of my early faves in prog metal. I'm just trying to get at the heart of why this bothers me.
If you don't like a band, just say you don't like the band.
It has less to do with the band and more to do with the "hotness" factor of the band, which seems to be bumping them up the lineup a bit. I just would like to see someone at that position that has a little more of a track record and seasoning, that's all.
Personally, I think they are OK. There is a certain amount of sameness to their songs and a pop slickness to their production. I don't think it was worth the $16 that I paid for it, but I'll probably keep it.
Delain had 2 albums, FWIW
Yes, but they didn't really catch fire until they settled on Charlotte Wessels as their lead singer for the 2nd album. So, my example still stands.
The thing to note is that once the fans got their stuff signed, they still didn't return to watch the rest of the set. It stayed empty as the set went on instead of filling back up. That line moved quickly so time was not a factor so much.
Yeah, the lack of a crowd for Rage was disappointing. That being said, it took me a while to like Rage and I can't say at the point of the show that I was a fan.
