I have a pair of Alesis MkII monitors, and Im thinking of selling those and purchase a pair of NS10`s instead. Any experienced NS10 users in this forum?

Thanks

I've been to a few studios were the only monitors in the mix room are NS10s and my low end always turns out fucked up beyond all belief. But the guys running the places get great results so I dunno.

Things sounds terrible on NS10, that´s a fact. But as the purpose of monitors is making better mixes, people usually says that "if it sounds good on NS10 it will sound good anywhere" and I´m tired of reading interviews of great engineers that couldn´t live without their Yamahas. I almost bought a pair myself just for the hype, but as the price of a great poweramp for them is outrageous (they´re passive) I ended up choosing HS50M and I´m glad I did it.

I have both NS10's and Alesis active MkII's and I use the MkII's much more. MkII's have a weird low mid sound to me, but that could also be my room. I only use the NS10's for getting mids to sound smoother

Im an Alesis MKII passive user, and theres not that much of a difference between the NS10s and these, i really wana get a set of NS10s, but i can mix on these and my mixes sound just fine on both, so theres no point in really getting the ns10s as of yet.

if you have the active versions they sound totally different to the passive versions of the alesis ones, the actives have a very coloured low end, and can be extremely boomy, the passive versions are not as bottomy, and have alot more focus on the mids (of which are very clear and accurate IMO)

i use studios with NS10s alot, and i prefer having a slightly different tone wth the alesis than just getting the yamahas as a sole reference monitor (until i can afford some £1k plus active monitoring)

Mix on Adam a7s ns10s and shitty computer speakers .
My top tip for mixing on ns10s is to not listen loudly, they are fatiguing little fuckers and will wear you out quickly. Also I think they work better at lower levels.
However I've found recently that mixing mostly at lower levels makes for a waaaaaaaay better mix, much more balanced and exciting as well as more coherant

yup i tend to turn down my monitors for checking levels and balance of a mix, ill also agree the yams get fatiguing at higher volumes due to all those lovely mids (talking a broad spectrum here btw lol)

Used NS10's plenty of times, and it's got to be said, I bloody hate them. Basically no low end, whenever I mix on them I end up listening the next day on a different system and going "ewwww"

Used to have a pair of Alesis M1MK2 Actives and I have to agree with the boomy comments. Didn't help that I'm mixing in a very small untreated room too.
Personally I'd go for a set of HS50's, or if your room is treated HS80's. Great monitors. I find my mixes translate really really well using the 50's.

If anybody's interested... We have an anechoic room at the uninversity and measured a friend's NS10. Here's the frequency response.
0.1 is 100 HZ
