Here is the Room,

The air hockey tables make the same sound my amps do and the singer likes to hop around when releasing the brootalz. I was lucky floorplanner.com had a drum set.

A control room that small really won't do you any favours, especially with doors in corners hindering bass trappage capability.

Personally in the kind of situation I'd rather have an all-in-one tracking and mixing room. Having an isolated CR is a luxury in ideal circumstances, but to try and create one with such a tiny space will lead to more problems than it solves. The space is already pretty acoustically compromised by the very low ceiling.

I would agree. Can you ditch the storage area?

I'd rather have a bigger, more comfy/better sounding control room, and then a fairly deadened "drum booth" type room, one you could still mic guitars in as well as use as a vocal booth, but that would be big enough for a drum kit and wouldn't get nasty ass reflections although wouldn't have insane sounding room mic usage.

Could you draw out an accurate plan to show where everything already is in the room, and where the garage door is? Also, how much storage space do you need?

Measurements in feet and inches would be best. I'll take some time to draw you up some rough layout plans, because you could have massive improvements on what you've already drawn.

Unfortunately the storage space/garage door needs to remain intact. I agree with the control room size issue, but a full band needs to be able to play in the live room(Its also our practice space). There are a lot of compromises here I'm not thrilled with but its $350 a month rental and paying to remove the garage door, rebuild/demo a wall, and reinstall the Garage door is not possible with what is a very small budget.

I'll see what I can do with getting a better/accurate sketch up tonight, and thanks for your suggestions. These plans aren't set in stone.

Ditch the control room then. Have a tracking/mixing setup in the open space and rely on isolation headphones for tracking. It's not ideal, but then if you want the best acoustics you'll be better off going to another studio entirely. Hell, you might even like it. Open-plan recoding rooms are great in terms of communication and vibe if done correctly.

wait, is that sketch-man sitting in a wheelchair? Could be hard to get him out through that vocalbooth

Well things are on their way. Here is the soundlock/vocal booth with the frame to my bass ghetto bass trap.

Yeah, I still have another FP10 sitting in a case next to the fried one. If I haven't said it before thanks for the trade and your amp collection instills jealousy.

You're more than welcome. The guitar was great, but unfortunately I never bonded with it. I swapped it for money that helped pay for my Engl Savage :headbang:

By the way, those jeans that you used as padding in the box, they're great. They fit perfect
