Like the title says! I've been playing around with my guitar sound, and I've come up with this:

http://www.orchidfixation.co.uk/sounds/guitar_test.mp3

I tried to get a sample with a bit of everything in, so apologies for it being a bit long - excuse the playing, it was first-take-at-4am stuff, it's pretty sloppy.

Any comments? I'm interested to know what you lot think - I'll tell you the set up oce I've seen some comments.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Hm, sounds very fuzzy to me. It's kinda hard to tell how it will sound with bass. I personally like less distortion.

Some of the riffs were quite good, though! I especially like the one with all the bending. :)

Hi
Way too much room sound getting into the mic or improper use of reverb. Thats the main problem I hear.

Thanks for the opinions, I agree with both of you actually - but to be honest I was more interested in what would come up in general than the actual tone. The room sound comment is interesting, because there's no room.

Basically, my cab is in pieces 200 miles away, so I was trying to find a way round not having anything to record through. The chain is:

Ltd F-50 -> Laney TF700 -> line out to PC's line in -> Guitar Rig (just as a cab emulator)

Guitar Rig is set up in the 'Nordström' style - 57 off-axis for the bulk of the sound, and another 57 on-axis mixed in just to add some top end, both on the V30 cab. There's no reverb anywhere, but it does sound like there's a shitload.

The main reason I posted it was because it's pretty much all digital (the amp is a hybrid, but it sounds quite solid state) but I don't think it sounds like it. Clean it sounds great, but the distortion is very fuzzy - I think the signal might be clipping a bit. This was straight off the bat though, without changing the settings on my amp at all, so there's scope for improvement. If I can get rid of that weird reverby-type thing it'll be a useful sound to demo with methinks.
