you know.. my dad was told to apply for one of those iraq contracting jobs

FalseTodd: "Those people" refered specifically to people who defame corpses, American, Iraqi, Canadian, its all the same.

xfer: Much to my own chagrin, I have not yet seen Full Metal Jacket but I have heard all about and read about all stuff. I suppose reading about it just didn't have the effect on me that seeing a picture of some child smiling next to a mutilated body did. I congratulate the photographer, the shock effect works. The lack of respect for human life is just what disgusts me and joy about death is overall sickening. At least to me, mutilation of a corpse displays a complete indifference to the loss of another's life. I just said I've never seen an actual picture of American soldiers posing with corpses or wearing fingers on necklaces. Personally, I think both what the soldiers did in Vietnam as well as what the folks in Iraq did with those bodies was digraceful not to America or Iraq but more to humanity. It's just depressing to have to see those pictures and realize we've made no progress whatsoever as a species. I don't really understand how this came to be a matter of comparison of the evils of America's past to the evils of war today. They aren't any different, they both deserve to be condemned equally, which is what I am seeking to do now that the issue has been raised. I merely said, at least so far, I haven't seen photographic evidence, which isn't to say I don't believe, just that the pictures affected me, just as much as written accounts. I guess that was the point I didn't elucidate properly, so for the record, anybody who kills someone and rejoices in their death by defaming their corpse exemplifies what it is to be a savage, a lack of respect for other's lives.

Keep in mind, too, that as technology becomes better, easier to use, and more available, we will see more and more images like this. Just because we didn't have the ability to easily take ear-necklace pics in Vietnam doesn't mean they didn't make ear-necklaces.

(In Full Metal Jacket there's a scene where the Americans are hanging out and playing with a V.C. corpse, posing for pictures with it, et cetera. Which did happen very often in real life)
