Your beloved metal ballad?

Here's another oldie by a once great band who unfortunately got ruined by being picked up by a major label who tried to tailor them to what they thought the public wanted. Real geniuses!

Crimson Glory - "Painted Skies" and "Lonely In Love"

Both songs are awesome, with "Painted Skies" having what might be one of my all time favorite guitar solos.

Symphony X - Candlelight Fantasia, Whispers

Dream Theater - Wait for Sleep, The Spirit Carries On, Space Dye Vest, Lifting Shadows off a Dream

Black Sabbath - Nightwing, Dying for Love

King's X - Goldilox, I'll Never Get Tired of You, Dream in my Life, Cigarettes, Lies in the Sand

Vanden Plas - I Don't Miss You, I'm In You, Scarlet Flower Fields

Savatage - Alone You Breathe

Too many...

saigon kick - love is on the way

this might not be metal but atleast its love oriented(unlike most of the songs mentioned here which are sad but not quite about love). hope this is what u want

Pain Of Salvation - Morning On Earth
Abso fucking lutely :headbang:

And let me add:

Marillion - Jigsaw (not metal, but I don't care)
Kamelot - A Sailorman's Hymn
Ayreon - Valley of the Queens
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest (not really a ballad, but it's slow and good)
Savatage - Summer's Rain (I know most of you proggers hate em, but they put out two of the best metal albums ever imo)

a beautiful opeth 'ballad' really, is Face Of Melinda. But also one of my favorite stunningly beautiful opeth songs is "Windowpane". I'd prolly choose windowpane though in those because the music is really pretty and touches my heart, the other music wise just has a cool solo bit at the end.

also black sabbaths "Dying for love" or "Feels good to me". are a bit of a tear jerker.

did anyone say 'the edge of forever' by syx yet?

Me too, it's really beautiful.
Can anyone do me a favor and send me this beautiful song you're all talking about? I can't find it anywhere!

Thanks in advance, the collection is building up quite nicely... Have a few songs left to add. :)

And I've listened to falling rain by Labyrinth - REALLY recommended :)

Any other recommendations, guys?
Do I get paid for this?
Just kidding.

If you liked that song, also try Labyrinth's "Heaven Denied" which is also really beautiful. In fact, why don't you just get the entire "Return To Heaven Denied" album? You won't be disappointed.

Others you might try:

"Spanish Rain" by Saigon Kick(my favorite acoustic song ever)
"Darkness Be My Friend" and "Arc Of Space" by Bruce Dickinson
"Lullaby" by Zebra
"Long Goodbyes" by Camel
"Madrigal" by Rush

I also agree with all of the Crimson Glory recommendations here. I'd also try "Lost Reflection".
And yeah "Sailorman's Hymn" by Kamelot too.

My Top 5 Metal Ballads

1.Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven
2.Sinergy - Razor Blade Salvation
3.Sentenced - Killing Me Killing You
4.Symphony X - The Edge of Forever
5.Children of Bodom - Angel's Dont Kill ( I consider it a ballad )

Symphony X: Candlelight Fantasia, Lady of the Snow, Whispers.

Fates Warning: The Eleventh Hour

Psychotic Waltz: Hanging on a string, Halo of Thorns, My Grave.

Dream Theater: Wait For Sleep, Another Day, Space Dye Vest

Pantera: Cemetary Gates

Iron maiden: Remember Tomorrow

I am gonna go with "Sleeping Sun" by Nightwish, "So Sad" by King Diamond, and temples of gold by kamelot... there were some others... oh yeah, lotus eaters by nevermore (most underrated ballad of theirs EVER)

I think "Lonely in Love" is awesome too (especially the clean guitar sound he has on it and the intro vocals), but "Painted Skies", to me, is just a little bit better an overall song. I think it might be my favorite, with "Lady of Winter" contending for that spot.

Up to "Transcendence" they were a great band. Once Atlantic records got a hold of them it was all downhill. I have heard clips from the Astronomica album and didn't care for them.

There are too many to mention, so I'll name just one this time:

The Killing Words by Queensryche !:worship:
INCREDIBLE SONG!

Queensryche has tons of great ballads... like:

Bridge
Real World
Silent Lucidity
I Will Remember
I Only Dream In InfraRed

Ohhh, let's see here. Apart from SX songs, which would be preaching to the choir, I'm partial to:

Def Leppard - Hysteria
Cinderella - Nobody's Fool, Don't Know What You Got
Crimson Glory - Lonely
Black Sabbath - Cross of Thorns
DT - Eve, Wait For Sleep, Surrounded, Space Dye Vest
Evergrey - I'm Sorry, As Light Is Our Darkness
Fates Warning - APSOG #6
Metallica - Call of Ktulu
Pain of Salvation - Oblivion Ocean, Her Voices
Opeth - Windowpane
Paradise Lost - Elusive Cure
Queensryche - I Dream In Infrared, Killing Words
Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever
Savatage - If I Go Away, Not What You See
Robert Plant - Ship of Fools
Skid Row - Wasted Time
Testament - Return to Serenity
Vanden Plas - I Don't Miss You
Toy Matinee - There Was A Little Boy
Rush - Bravado
Whitesnake - Is This Love

etc, etc, etc. Yes, I'm dating myself. :)

My all time favourite is Strato's Forever. It brings back such great memories... I sang that song at my own wedding and I'll never forget the look on my husband's face when he heard that.

My other favs are:
Angra - Bleeding Heart
Gamma Ray - Lake Of Tears
Thunderstone - Weak
Nightwish - Forever Yours
