YOUR FAVORITE CD'S OF 2008?....

You are about 15 years too late on the "wishing for Metallica's demise" bandwagon.

Of course the new Metallica is selling because of the name on the jacket.

Jesus Christ on a Cracker! Do you know how long I have been debating this side of it, but most people give me the "But it's Metallica!" crap.

It's refresing to hear a metalhead that agrees that Metallica should have quit about the same time they cut their hair.

Glad to see som many digging Mercy Falls by Seventh Wonder, glad to see many praises of Metallica, disappointed nobody else seem to like Neal Morse...

Metallica is of course not to think about but with these many hits for SW I am surprised not more people keep pushing for a PPslot for them.

(granted I guess I'd love to see Neal even more than SW but still, -SW on U.S soil would certainly be cool too. Oh and Metallica are aslo welcome...)

Seventh Wonder is the perfect band for Prog Power. I'm sure Glenn is well aware of them, and will get them inked to play some time soon.
Queuing this up right now.

Some how, our top fives seemed to have aligned once again. I know you've been pretty high on this all year, so I'm giving it a second shot.

EDIT: No aggression... no edge... no thanks.

If you can get past the cheesiness of the story, some of the lyrics, and the bad spoken word acting you'll find that the songs are very catchy and memorable. That might not sound like a ringing endorsement, but the the singer is awesome, and the band is top notch. It's a winner.

Truthfully you might like their last disc, Waiting In The Wings a bit better.

The singer is very good. However, I find their music melodic to the point of being sugary.

Cool. I'll give it a spin.

Disfear - Live The Storm
Cynic - Traced in Air
Origin - Antithesis
Phobia - 22 Random Acts of Violence

There may be other albums in 2008 I'd rank high, but in many cases I didn't even realize a band I liked had put something out!

Yup -never really get the heavy shit on.
For me personally all the other benefits make up for that and I'll bang my brains out to thrashier stuff when I am in the mood.

All the other shit SW keep throwing at me (aside from the heavy headbanging stuff at which they certainly don't excell) still makes them number one im my book though.
The bass work alone makes my balls twitch with excitement...

I have another cd to add to mine now...
Order of Ennead...I finally listened to it today and am loving it. I have never been a fan of deicide but have always thought the drummer was good, and I think this blows away any of the deicide stuff.

Not an easy question to answer. I enjoyed a lot of CDs in 2008.

Judging by what's in near-constant rotation in my CD changer, here's my list (in no particular order) of faves from this past year:

1. Seventh Wonder "Mercy Falls" (actually, this is tied for the #1 spot of favorite CDs of 2008)
2. Venturia "Hybrid"
3. Sabaton "The Art of War"
4. King's X "XV"
5. In This Moment "The Dream"
6. Within Temptation "Black Symphony"
7. Candlemass "Lucifer Rising"
8. Battlelore "The Last Alliance"
9. Power Quest "Master of Illusion"
10. Official Soundtrack to the Motion Picture Juno
11. Opeth "Watershed"
12. Grateful Dead "Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978"
13. Falconer "Among Beggars and Thieves"
14. Six Minute Century "Time Capsules" (tied for my #1 favorite album of 2008)

I could have listed a dozen more (Amon Amarth, Suspyre, Kiuas, Fireflight, Alestorm, etc.). But the above CDs I listen to at least once or twice per week. A few of them ("The Art of War," "The Last Alliance," "Among Beggars and Thieves," "Mercy Falls," and "Rocking the Cradle"), I'll pop into my changer and listen to all day long as I write.

Two thousand eight seems to have been a good year for music. I have many CDs I could have listed. But the above 14 seem to find their way into my CD player more often than others.

So there you have it.

My personal top 10:

1.Royal Hunt - Collision Course
2.Pyramaze - Immortal
3.Firewind - The Premonition
4.Avantasia - The Scarecrow
5.Serenity - Fallen Sanctuary
6.Edguy - Tinnitus Sanctus
7.Evergrey - Torn
8.Circle II Circle - Delusions of Grandeur
9.Jorn - Lonely are the Brave
10.Brainstorm - Downburst

I encourage everyone's participation in my radio show's poll for the best album of 2008! The options were selected via compromise between my cohost and I.

Looking through my collection, I see I didn't buy as many albums in 2008 as I thought I did. Throwing in a few late-2007 ones here (I got them this year and the bands toured on them in 2008).

Helloween - Gambling With The Devil
Avian - Ashes And Madness
Theocracy - Mirror of Souls
Orden Ogan - Vale
Scorpions - Humanity: Hour I

The Scorpions album totally caught me by surprise. I didn't even bother to check out their new songs on myspace before I went to the concert, figuring they'd be crap. Big mistake. Their newest album is chock-full of great tunes, which I discovered at the show. They've matured in their song-writing, which makes for some good stuff.

Overall I think that 2008 was a down year...but top heavy. The new Opeth and To-Mera will stand the test of time as all time classics for me...not sure about the rest. Here is my top releases for 2008 that received the most spins. This list should be considered incomplete though...I have not heard the new Falconer and I'm certain it would be on this list...and up pretty high...I fully expect Santa to deliver this to me for Christmas...HAPPY HOLIDAYS my little metalhead friends:

1. Opeth- Watershed
2. To-Mera- Delusion
3. Firewind- The Premonition
4. Amaseffer- Exodus: Slaves For Life
5. Saint Deamon- In Shadows Lost From the Brave
6. Tiamat- Amanethes
7. Masquerage- Moonlight Time
8. Andromeda- The Immunity Zone
9. Sabaton- The Art of War
10. Suspyre- When Time Fades
11. Alestorm- Captain Morgan's Revenge
12. Sharanam- Sacred Chants of Devotion
13. Bloodbath- The Fathomless Mastery
14. Magician- Tales of the Magician
15. Jorn- Lonely Are the Brave
