I noticed a few people have the new Venturia. I passed on it at ProgPower since I thought "The New Kingdom" was just ok, even if I thought their sound was pretty unique. How is the new one in comparison?

Greatest band discovery of 2008. MAGNUM How did a band this amazing go unnoticed for so long by my dumb ass? Thanks to Tobi for bringing Bob to Avantasia. That's what made me discover em.

Your list intruiged me, so I gave your Top 10 a listen...

1. Apes and Androids - Blood Moon - not my cup of tea
2. Burst - Lazarus Bird - sounds very promising. I need to explore this further.
3. Ours - Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy) - not my cup of tea
4. Mutyumu - Il y a - I liked the first classical song. However, the second track sounded eclectic for the sake of being eclectic.
5. The Stiletto Formal - !Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta - very, very cool.
6. Marillion - Happiness is the Road - I respect who these guys are, but they've never been for me. This latest offering is no different.
7. Bend Sinister - Stories of Brothers, Tales of Lovers - pass.
8. Sculptured - Embodiment: Collapsing Under the Weight of God - another intruiging disc, that I'll need to spend some time with.
9. Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer - yuck... blech... pleh.
10. Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) - pass.

There's a couple of CDs in there I'll be taking a more serious look at. Gracias.

Nostradamus was ok, but, to Zod's point / question, the only reason they could release a double album that was pushed as hard as it was is due to the band name on the jacket.

Oh definitely... you can't experiment like that without industry pull..

I didn't realize they put out this album until 2008 since I stopped listening to them after they released "Far From The Sun." However, Silent Waters is amazing and for some reason, its been my most played album as well this year. I just picked up the LP a couple days ago too.

I had to pay import prices to get the CD, but it was worth it!

I don't understand why people disliked Brainstorm's Downburst so much yet liked Liquid Monster so much more. I like both albums!

I'd agree that the discs are fairly similar. However, it seems each successive Brainstorm CD has become a little less dark, and a little less aggressive. I suspect for some people, there's a breaking point as Brainstorm moves to a more accessible sound.

In the true spirit of Christmas, I have re-evaluated Downburst and now rate it a 7.5/10. I just think it sounds too much the same throughout, hence making it not as memorable as LM was, IMO.

I'll throw my two cents in....while all are quality cds, none of the last 3 Brainstorm albums are as good (or heavy) as Metus Mortis. Just my opinion.
