The Band I mentioned in the essential prog albums thread reminded me of mine...

But before I start, Please, tell me/us about your first ever gig you went too, either as a ticket holder, sound crew or any other reason to go/be there...

Back in 1972, yes I am the Relic on Opeth Forum :)
"Possibly the oldest?" I was working assembling high quality Power Amps, Pre-Amps and Loudspeakers in the West of England.

One saturday I went into a record shop hunting Vinyl, I think I bought Faust on clear vinyl, when I went to pay for it I got chatting to the guy serving, he said, I'm doing a disco in South Wales tonight would you come along and help me? yes was my swift response.

Well it turned out that it was to be in an American Airforce base in South Wales which must remain nameless although I think it has gone now.

We set up the system, the guy had oil projectors and some white backdrops.

In came the audience, about 60 of them, we played a selection of single's "Rock stuff" after about 2 hours of this, the audience had dwindled to about 40.

Then he put on Iron Butterfly's, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, "In The Garden Of Eden" this now a rock classic album btw.

It has the title track, all on one side and has a 17 minute drum solo.

When it ended we got a huge cheer, when we put the next record on they threatend to throw their empties at us if we didn't play, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida again...

And that was it, we only played that album for the rest of the night, the night I lost my road crew virginity for sure, been at it on and off ever since :)

Now, your turn ppl.

Fuck that was a great show. WASP and Armored Saint Opened. I am so sad Metalllica evolved into what they did. I know they had to "mature", but they were true pioneers of metal, and wished they had been more true to their roots.

First gig I remember: Ray Charles when I was like 8-9 or something. I don't remember it too well, but I do know that the man was a legend, and that he was on good form that night.

First rock gig: Wheatus. My friend wanted to go and see them for his birthday, but he needed somebody to go with. I was sceptical at first, but it was a really good, fun night, and it was a gateway to all the other concerts I've been to since.

First gig I went to because I really wanted to: Tori Amos. Amazing, just amazing. The woman played for over 2 hours, and at no point did the set drag. Still, to this day, one of the best I've been to.
