Your opinions on this tone/mix?

It's a new podfarm tone I made using the JCM-800 clone, a cab sim with one of Ryan's impulses, drums are from slate, and this is a first very rough mix with a big heap of compression put on the overall mix afterwards.

Here's the mix without the compression afterwards:

With/without the track compression? Any opinions or tips on the overall mix?

Here's the same thing, but with a different, brighter, tone:

Now that I hear them both side by side, I think they are both too extreme. One is too muffled, the other too bright. I think I'm looking for something right in the middle between these two tones. Opinions?
