I know the term "alternative" will get argued frequently but what the hell. Here's mine,

Not in order:
Incubus
Sublime
Alice in Chains
Deftones
Local H

Yeah, never been so clear on "alternative" but....

1. Nirvana
2. Alice in Chains
3. Rage Against The Machine
4. Neutral Milk Hotel
5. Pearl Jam

1 alice in chains
2 pearl jam
3 soundgarden
4 smashing pumpkins
5 nirvana

is faith no more and ugly kid joe alternative 90's bands? they'd take the place of some of the others i listed

I would say that Faith No More was hard rock/metal. They could have been classified into both, so it would be appropriate to include them.

In that case:

Faith No More
AIC
RATM
STONE TEMPLE (FUCKING) PILOTS
Soundgarden

I myself consider alternative alternate to what is popular, not on the radio...
The Pixies
Concrete Blonde
Lush
Ned's Atomic Dustbin
The Church

Saw Local H waaaay back in 96'! Just the guitarist, and a drummer. They had bass coming from a machine. kinda "nirvana-ish". They opened for Corrosion of Conformity.:heh:

Thats cool, I never would have thought they'd open for COC. But if you're a band just starting out you have to expose your music to different genres. I've always liked their music and they slowly became on of my fav's over the years. I just seen them a few months ago at this huge nightclub/rock bar called Bourbon St. and they still rock only with 2 members.

By far my least favorite genre/generation of music but..

Soundgarden
Weezer
RATM
Faith No More

Live
Pearl Jam
Headstones (awesome Canadian band)
Sublime
Rage Against the Machine

This list is subject to change. STP is up there too, as are Alice in Chains... actually, this is pretty tough.

Not sure what to make of this but here are some of my favorite bands that I think could fit:

My Bloody Valentine
Lush
Slowdive
Soundgarden
Ride

I hear The Pixies on the radio all the time...

That's possible, but I would say collage radio, or possibly satellite radio. The Church had a hit with Under the Milkyway back in 88-89'. But the bands I listed are bands that are not trying to be included amongst the bands that are wanting to have hit singles, or gain mass appeal through radio. It will happen from time to time that bands like these will break through to a different crowd, such as the Grunge bands did. Talk about good timing for them! I myself haven't bothered with radio since 89-90. Because by then, I had enough music that I found on my own that made me happy. I got tired of rock stations playing only Dust in the Wind, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Roundabout, Invisible Touch...etc. from bands that had way better songs, and a lot of other past material to choose from. But they never would play it.
