Your Top 5: 90's Alternative bands

Anyone remember Seven Mary Three? I only liked one of their albums (American Standard), but it was a good one.

Does R.E.M. count as 90s alternative, or 80s? They released Out of Time in the 90s, so I'd put them up there too.

The Pixies covered a Jesus and Mary Chain tune called Head On. The bands I listed were around in the 80's-early 80s. But to me, The Church, Concrete Blonde, and a few others did better albums in the 90s, and solidified their style by then.

My least favorite musical period also. I hated the grunge scene and almost all that came with it. AiC and Mother Love Bone were the only ones I could tolerate from that mess. So..

Alice In Chains
Mother Love Bone (if this even counts)
Faith No More (!!!)

I can't help but like The Melvins, and Soungarden, AIC. The rest of the grunge bands...meh

Fuck knows what people count 'alternative' as meaning but..

Pearl Jam, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Radiohead, Lush and Sigur Ros are all great. ;>

1) Alice In Chains
2) Primus
3) Rage Against The Machine
4) Weezer (The Blue Album and Pinkerton are some of the best alternative rock albums)
5) Smashing Pumpkins (If only for Gish and Siamese Dream)

Pretty sure AIC and RATM are the only '90s alternative I really listen to, but I've heard some Ween and Pixies and those are both brilliant bands. Mother Love Bone and Soundgarden are also pretty good.

the lack of jane's addiction in this thread is mind blowing. also saigon kick were alternative imo
