Now I know there is a lot of things happening on the Opeth forum that aren't directly related to Opeth, so I thought I'd ask a rather difficult and out of the way question on the Katatonia forum.

I'm not sure if this has already been asked before... I'm pretty sure it hasn't, but...

What are you favourite albums of the 90's? Now this is quite a question...

My top five follow in this order:

1. Like Gods of the Sun- My Dying Bride
2. Tonight's Decision- Katatonia
3. Brave Murder Day- Katatonia
4. Alternative 4- Anathema
5. Draconian Times- Paradise Lost

My next section would include: 'The Angel and the Dark River' by My Dying Bride, 'Dusk and Her Embrace' by Cradle of Filth, 'Morningrise' by Opeth, and 'October Rust' by Type O Negative.

Congrats requiem, that one is even tougher than the song survivor
Well, I'll do my best - but only the top five?! There are so many brilliant albums out there which were created in the nineties...ok I'll just shut up now :loco:

Anathema - Alternative 4
Bolt Thrower - War Master
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans
Opeth - Morningrise

Ouch! As for the next section(s), I'd go for Machine Head - Burn My Eyes, Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated, Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane, At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul, My Dying Bride - As The Flower Withers / The Angel & The Dark River, Ulver - Bergtatt/Kvelds./N.Madrigal, Fear Factory - Demanufacture, Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow, Sepultura - Arise/Chaos A.D....damn, I can't decide.

This is a difficult one:

Dark Tranquillity - the Gallery
Paradise Lost - Draconian Times
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black

After that I'm clueless.

Well, i won't make any ranking order...

- Katatonia - all from Brave Murder Day on
- Portishead - Roseland NYC live
- Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
- Amorphis - Tales from a thousand Lakes
- Massive Attack - Mezzazine

Well for now i would have missed Dark Tranquility's 'The Mind's I' and Cannibal Corpse's 'Bloodthirst', but i think those don't have such a deep emotional impression to me like the other ones.
Oh, I forgot 'Storm of the Lights Bane' from Dissection ::smile::

Holy shit. That's a hard one.

-MDB: The Angle & the dark river
-Anathema: Eternity
-Katatonia: Brave Murder Day
-Emperor: Anthems to the welkin at dusk
-Ulver: Themes from William Blake

All albums that have really hit me hard, so I guess they win. So many others though..........:err:

I can choose just two albums, after them there are so too many great albums, of which I can't decide which are the three best.

Those two albums are:

1. Opeth - Orchid
2. Katatonia - Brave Murder Day

Remaining three I would most definately choose from these bands: Opeth, Katatonia, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Death, Amorphis, Sentenced and CMX (a finnish non-metal band).

that is way too diffucult...but a few that come to mind
Anathema
Katatonia
Opeth
Jeff Buckley
Hum
Emperor
Nick Cave
.....i will stop now it will just turn into to a list of favorite bands....:p

aaargh...I just noticed that you CAN'T answer this question, but below are some albums that came to my mind when I tried to answer it:

My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans (could also be TLATEOTW)
Opeth - Still Life (could also be Orchid/Morningrise)
Tiamat - Wildhoney (or maybe A Deeper Kind of Slumber?)
Katatonia - Tonight's Decision (or BMD, or maybe even Disc. 1nes?)
Children of Bodom - Tokyo Warhearts (was my favourite album for months. but I'm not into their studio albums)

another listing could be:

Dark Tranquillity - Skydancer
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Unholy - Gracefallen
Dying Fetus - Killing on Adrenaline
Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse

there's a lot of good music for everyone...

well i'll only list albums that would fit in with this style of music and i'm not allowed to list a band more than once or it would be the 5 Opeth albums :)

5: Anathema - Judgement
4: Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
3: Norvembre - Classica
2: Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
1: Opeth - MORNINGRISE

I don't pick my top five of the day with a heart set towards making the choice permanent. Tis all part of the wonder of being severely moody. Different albums reach me on different levels at different times. But anywho...
Ocean Machine - Biomech
Dead or Alive - Nukleopatra
Strapping Young Lad - City
... they reached me and helped me in their own ways. Yes i realize one of those is really gay dance music ;)

Imposible to remember what albums are the best of the 90's
but this would be albums that came to my mind right now.

King Diamond - The Eye
Mercyful Fate - In the Shadows
Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
My Dying Bride - The Angel and the Dark River
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
Manowar - The Triumph of Steel

Ufff that would be six , sorry I can't choose 5, even I'm forgotten maybe other that I like more than those

I'm almost sorry that I began this thread as my own opinions change so often I have trouble concluding a top 5!

5. Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk (atmospheric as hell)
4. Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (kick-ass)
3. White Zombie - LA Sexorcisto (The Coolest Band Ever (TM))
2. Katatonia - Tonight's Decision (soundtrack for the recently dumped indeed)
1. Metallica - s/t (Simply the best)

1-Orchid
2-Morningrise
3-Serenades
4-Turn Loose the Swans

....
5- not so sure... maybe Irreligious
