Mitchell & Webb Look - Explorers

That was very good! New South Wales is indeed a ridiculous name to call a place. So is Bayswater, a suburb of Melbourne which is nowhere near the bay, but was presumably named after the place in London.

I like those guys - they did one where one of them was a Liverpool fan, which was also funny. I've never seen them on tv here though.

Up here (Bayswater is the next suburb over) quite a few suburbs are named after English places. Baywater, Croydon, Ringwood. OK, three places.

Here, we've got Lithgow, Hartley, Vale of Clwyyd, Littleton and the list goes on. At least we've got some streets named after machine guns (Vickers), and fighter/bombers (Beufort), and Battle locations (Paschendale, Suvla, Lone Pine) etc.

They generally DID try to match the places with the utilisation of the area.

There have been packages delivered to power stations with "Newcastle on Hunter", rather than "Newcastle on Tyne"

Speaking of Australian place names, they really put the thinking caps on when they came up with the names for our states, didn't they? Even the cities: "Hey we need to name this place. Oh, let's name it after some Admiralty bloke."

More Mitchell & Webb goodness :)

And for those who love their YouTube memes, here's Weezer's new video:
