Which Opeth album has the best drumming?

Watershed is "harder" but Ghost Reveries is better for its creativity. I agree with everyone saying Baying of the Hounds is the pinacle for Opeth drumming. For what it's worth, I can play through most of GR but not Watershed on the drums. It also feels like there's more of a musical...

    Opeth @ NorVa

Out of about a dozen Opeth shows I've been to, one at the Norva was the best. Best sound easily. It was a pretty light crowd, which I don't mind because we could get about 5 feet from the stage without getting smashed or moshed. Also everything's in walking distance so you can drink up. Speaking...

    Best Song Drumwise

baying of the hounds is probably most fun for me to play. ghost of perdition is a close second. before ghost reveries it was deliverance, leper affinity, advent and the moor.

Opeth off-date @ The Troc. In Philly

I think the soundboard man was deaf with double cochlear implants. Unbelievably bad sound. Oh well. Opethfawkingrules, were you and your girl upstairs in the first row? Just asking cause this girl looked like she hated opeth. Nice bum though.

    Best Drumming

GR, for creativity, variety, and sound quality. GOP for example has about 16 different 'beats' in it, not counting all the different fills. Baying might have more. Most songs in the non-Opeth world have 3-4. Another great thing is that these beats aren't technically difficult---they're easy...

    Norva Feb. 16th

Me and the girl are going. I agree about the venue. Out of 10 or so Opeth shows we've seen, the Norva show a few years ago was the best because of the sound, big stage, and room to breathe. You could get up to the 3rd or 4th row without fighting. It's a nice town too and you can get a close...

Ever heard Opeth coming from another car?

Same as you all...never. But listen for me in the nortnern VA area in the gray tahoe. I got subwoofers conventionally used for rap music but you'll only hear metal and classical coming out of them. Well, I turn it down near old people or in my own neighborhood out of respect.

which opeth's song most fun to play?

I agree with the other drummers. This stuff is a blast to play. Especially Baying of the Hounds, Ghost of Perdition, The Moor, Advent, Leper Affinity, Deliverance, Bleak, Wreath, the middle of Drapery Falls, etc. Any guitarists in the DC area who feel like jamming out in my basement, let me...

    OFFICIAL AMERICAN SETLIST THREAD

I liked Mike's death metal school throughout the show in Philly, teaching everyone the different growl types..."keep it tight...'ARH!'" Then teaching everyone how to headbang properly. "Don't do it side to side. The only one in the world allowed to do that is Martin Mendez. We call it the...

    Got my tickets!!!

didn't want to start a new thread, but the show here in Springfield, VA sold out already. Their website, jaxxroxx.com, states that the show was the fastest sellout in the club's history. Not too shabby considering that they get all the biggest metal acts. Got 4 tickets.

    The Philadelphia Show

Me and the girl are coming from DC, so we're trying to get a hotel room, but apparently there's the National Educational Computing Conference that week (27th-30th) and they've sapped up all the area rooms, including for the previous weekend. Usually you can get the Hyatt right on Penn's landing...

Woooo! First two Sound of the Underground tour dates!

Maybe it will be like that documentary "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" that I cought by accident on IFC. I'd go just for that. Hopefully they let Opeth play more than 40 minutes, but I doubt it with all those lame bands. :(

    Opinions on Martin Lopez

my girlfriend likes the "nothing" face Lopez puts on when playing, quite atypical for metal drummers trying to put on a little show in the back. what I like is the beat varieties and obvious Latin influence, something I'd imagine is rare elsewhere in death metal. pretty funny guy too. I...

    Drummers that listen to Opeth

oh yeah, you're exactly right about that. I was talking about the very next part, with the quick ride along with the double bass. I can do the ride/snare, or bass/snare, but not all at once. when he changes it over to the hi hat it's a lot easier though that entire section is so fun to...
