    That "Clayman" sound....

I have to agree here. I struggled for a long long time before getting better equipment, and it forced me to really listen and tweak and listen again. That is a skill that will never fail you. Compare the track that I just posted above with what I USED to get for results, the only difference...

    That "Clayman" sound....

I guess I found this topic kind of late. I tried the technique today and bounced three different mixes of the results with different balances between the mics. This mix was the closest that I came to the "Clayman sound" however, I don't have a Peavey 5150/6505 so I can't get anywhere in the...

    What might my friend like?

He wants to get into metal more, but he really only likes Mastodon lol. I told him about Crack the Skye because I heard of it on a guitar forum and he fell in love with it. He looked up their other stuff and liked all of it except for Remission. I pretty much recommended all of the different...

    Difference between thrash and death

Good stuff, thanks for the rec. I am currently rocking out to Morbid Angel and liking it lol :D

    Difference between thrash and death

lol ok, I guess BDM gets no love around here. That's kind of how I feel about The Acacia Strain, but I think that BDM actually has good riffs and instrumentation. 'Worship Only What You Bleed' gets me every time. WTF genre is Meshuggah. I just have to say that I really freaking love this...

    Difference between thrash and death

How about Black Dahlia Murder? To be honest I thought they were Deathcore, but a different friend of mine thinks they are modern death metal. I love Obituary as well, but again they are more along the lines of thrash-influenced death. I'll dig into my Morbid Angel collection as well thank you.

    Difference between thrash and death

This made me laugh :D I guess this is a more controversial topic than I had originally thought. I think the riffs/rhythms theory is fairly accurate as well, which leads to the drums having more of an active part in the sound of modern death metal. I have the suffocation discography, but it's...

    Difference between thrash and death

So a friend of mine that I work with asked me the difference between thrash metal and death metal. I played him some Slayer for the thrash part and some Carcass for death. Then I started thinking, well Carcass has a lot of aspects of thrash in their music, so what would be a good pure death...

    Meshuggah - ObZen

'I' changed the course of my life... in 21 minutes. ObZen definitely didn't dissappoint. Bleed is among my most recommended songs by them. Meshuggah is absolutely essential for those crappy days at work when you've only got 15 minutes in your car to blow off some steam. Considering the...

    Modded 5150 II!

Sick tone dude, really. I think it's even more pleasing than the actual song's tone IMO. What kind of guitar/pickups were used? Amp settings? P.S. it's Jake from RecordingReview :D
