Female fronted melodic death metal (Includes RAW's for your mixing pleasure)

Thanks for taking a listen! Agreed that the drums could use more ambience. The velocities arent all full, but there's so much parallel compression going on, that it certainly sounds like it. There's some machine gunning in the fills, 'cause I was too lazy tweak them. Still trying to get my head...

Parkway Drive - Boneyards - mix critic

Hi! Overall sound pretty good. Like Dystopian Order said, cleaning some upper mids with narrowish eq would help. Mainly guitars at 2.2k. For cymbals, hunt down frequencies which start to 'whistle' or 'fizz'. Usually this should be done in the context of the entire mix, or at least the guitar...

Female fronted melodic death metal (Includes RAW's for your mixing pleasure)

Thank you for feedback! Readjusted the guitar sounds and updated the file, but can't say if made any significant difference. I'm having hard time with the guitar tones in general. The 'bite' or 'grain' or whatever it's called mostly stands out for me as static upper middle dissonant resonance...

Anyone wanna mix some drop E?

Did some drafting. Thank you for tracks! ^_^ https://www.dropbox.com/s/mepbz5a4e1e4240/drop-e-test.m4a?dl=0

Here my try! Did some extensive fiddling with the drums, and I'm not sure how the fills turned out. Had to insert some MIDI using the Stetson-Harrison method. ^_^ https://www.dropbox.com/s/ggqk5xv22m0lcf0/nephylim_-_futile_endevours.m4a?dl=0

Thank you for effort. I'm on Logic Pro X, and the new MIDI map works fine. It still gives a tempo reading of 216.9998 for sections I'd suspect were at 217, but the difference is insignificant. If I get anything worthy done, I will upload here. ^_^

My first mix...what do you think?

I think in the first version the kick low end already sounds more complete with right balance between fundamental sub oompf (~50) and first harmonic punchy aggression (~100). Rough estimates. The later version has more 'hard knock', just as you intended, but it went too far (subjective opinion)...

Female fronted melodic death metal (Includes RAW's for your mixing pleasure)

Well, I get starting tempo of 216.9998 on 1st beat. Could probably be a false float. Then another tempo marker at 18th bar, also 216.9998. But with this map I can't get the snare landing on beats no matter how I try to align the tracks. When I try tapping in the tempo based on the first section...

With Futile Endeavours how are the tracks supposed to align with the tempo track? I end up sounding Philip Glass no matter how I try. ^_^

My first mix...what do you think?

Sounds better, and the drums have now more focus. Although it's now cleaner, for me it sounds like you've done something 'not-so-good' with the low end. You might want to do some more tweaking there. ^_^

    Mix Critique

The guitars feel narrow in bandwidth and panorama. A fairly standard method for building beefy guitar wall is to double track the rhythm guitar parts, and then hard pan first on one side and the other opposite. Assuming you have healthy sounding source tracks, general eq strategy is to cut some...

    Mix Help/Critique

I agree with Dystopian Order, that the guitars feel too forward. Instead of readjusting the levels, you could also try cutting some 5k (and perhaps a little 3k) from guitar wall to 'pull them back a bit'. ^_^ EDIT: During the double kicks the lowest part of it's fundamental starts to build up...

    Blackhole [original]

A rough generalization: It's very common that after 'loudnessing' indie based rock/metal production you get (most likely guitar) resonance at around ~2,~3, or ~5k depending on if it was mainly worked on 2-way, 3-way/small 2-way or headphones/earbuds. Less obvious problematic frequencies are...

The God that failed - Metallica black album guitar tone - Guitar Cover

Nice! The guitar sounds very authentic. The overall stereo image feels too much artificially augmented, and for me it kind 'ruins' the focus. Perhaps more traditional panning/imaging might translate into more coherent sound stage. This being said, the guitars do sound very Metallica. Good work! ^_^

    Old shit remix

Ok. Well, if you want to proceed with already recorded material and have access to the original multitracks, I'd suggest you try to rework the mix to slightly bring out the vocals and soften the upper middle frequencies of guitars with eq. Or if you're already happy with the results and...
