    Favourite Bodom Title Track

The Nail should have been the title track, seeing as how the album title is a lyric in the song (it's also one of the album's best tracks). I prefer "Hatebreeder" of the title tracks. Great soloing, solid riffs.

    Fav bodom album poll!!

IMO, Children of Bodom peaked with Something Wild/Hatebreeder and started going downhill after Follow the Reaper. Something Wild has amazing melodies/riffs literally through the whole album, with a couple short moments of mediocrity - AYDY, in contrast, is basically a rehash of Hatecrew...

    Janne...

I won't deny that Janne transposes - my point is that if he does, it isn't for those reasons. Any musician knows that the key of anything (chord/piece/scale) being played is irrelevant to the tuning of the instrument that it's played on - if it's in E Minor, it is played in E Minor (albeit with...

CHILDREN OF BODOM YOUR FAV BAND?

No, he seriously doesn't. Blythe has an obnoxious 'trying-to-growl-but-can't-so-I'll-scream-low-instead" style; to say the same of Jari in any context is an insult to him. If every album that Children of Bodom made/would make was as good as Something Wild, they'd be at least close to being my...

    Bands similar to CoB?

Ensiferum (Jari Maenpaa's band prior to forming Wintersun) is musically similar in places, and the screaming is either like that of Wintersun or Norther depending on which album you're listening to, seeing as how Petri Lindroos replaced Jari in 2004.

    Janne...

Short answer, no. If it's in E minor, it's in E minor - whether the guitar is downtuned or not. If it is, he plays everything a semitone higher than he normally would to compensate. To assume otherwise would defeat the purpose of naming the key. That, too, is quite illogical. Transposing on...

    Viking Metal

I'd take Ensiferum over Bathory (the viking metal Bathory, anyway) any day. I personally find that most of Hammerheart is straight up boring for the sheer lack of melody and variety between the songs. My respect for Bathory's viking metal work ends at its influence upon other bands in the genre.

how did you guys get into kalmah?

After getting into Children of Bodom in late 2005, I started looking into melodic metal bands. I found Wintersun in early '06, and from there, I found Kalmah after looking through lists of melodic death metal bands (which IMO, Wintersun doesn't fit - Kalmah strikes me as melodic death only on...

    Rate every album

Something Wild - 7/10 Crazy good melodies and vocals, but the song structures are too sporadic to enjoy them properly. Favorite tracks - In The Shadows, Lake Bodom Hatebreeder - 8/10 Melodies only slighter weaker than Something Wild, and vocals are a bit weaker, but the structuring makes the...

Listen to Tie My Rope here...

Most of it sounds like a mix of Hatecrew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet? (which, to me, is a bad thing), and a few parts (namely, synched keyboard/guitar solo and the chorus melody) are more reminiscent of Follow the Reaper. IMO, it's a step up from AYDY and a step down from HCDR.

has metal playing technique affected how kids learn guitar today?

Blues vs Sum 41 - hmm, tough call.

could u live without heavy metal /emo/children of bodom/old school/rock

I could do without all but metal. Children of Bodom is good, but there are loads other black/death/power/folk metal bands that could fill the gap. My current purpose in life is writing/playing metal.

What was the first ever metal album you ever bought?

Hmm.. Dunno whether you'd consider Slipknot metal. They were the first metal(ish) band I was exposed to, and while I never got an album of theirs, I did download 4-5 tracks from each of their albums. The first metal album I obtained was Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss. War Ensemble holds a...

    Power Metal greats

?.. Dude, early Children of Bodom is more melodic black than anything. There's little, if anything, about their demos through Hatebreeder that suggests power metal. While we're on the subject of Dragonforce.. I personally like them; not the best power metal band, and their solos are a...

    Metal Presentation

If I were working on a metal presentation (which isn't going to happen anytime soon considering the linear tendencies of my assignments), I'd probably focus on the diversity within the subgenres. It annoys me when people assume that all metal sounds like Slipknot, but I can't play some...
