Equator D5 tips from Ted himself

no correct position. just the whole "equilateral triangle with your head on the same plane" and listen at around 85db. they have phone apps to measure SPL. i dont like it that loud ALL the time but once in a while to hear all the frequencies mesh better. or i get in really close like a 2 foot...

    A quick helpful hint

im starting to hate those typewriter/plastic type kicks. they sound so much cooler when you can hear that beater sound cut through without the irritating over boosted plastic sound, try to cut some OH/guitars/vox around that area where the high slap of the kick sounds good without boosting...

    MIDI Keyboard

I love the drum editors in cubase and reaper. No note lenghths just single hits that look like a diamond. Also the biggest plus is drum maps. Its so much easier to program drums when you are looking at the drums labeled instead of a piano.

    Volume differences between instruments

i think a lot of it is practice and personal taste. i always wondered that same thing then i realized some producers have a lot of one thing (ex. machine and his overheads) where others dont. it just depends on what you want it to sound like. also consider that louder you listen to something...

    Grind core for vinyl advice?

The kick and bass should be mono regardless of vinyl or not. I think everyone is saying to mono out everything else down there that isn't already mono (room, low end of the shells, low end of stereo guitars) at least that's what I'm getting out of it. So in order to tame that high mid range...

Questions on making backing tracks with Cubase 6

Backing tracks should me mono. My drummer just wears ear buds that come out of the headphone jack on the sample pad. We run one mono out to FOH. He doesnt use a click, but if we wanted too all we would do is pan the click right, samples left, and only run left to FOH while he gets the click in...

    Specific band side-chain Compression

you use reaper? if not i recommend it. comes with tons of good stock plugins. in reaper you can do parameter modulation where you can modulate an eq band to duck or you can split the signal into three bands with jsbandsplitter (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 on the same track), slap a sidechain comp and set the...

    Grind core for vinyl advice?

I'm recording an EP for a 7" and was curious as to if there are any special considerations for mixing. I guess I'm trying to capture that kind of shitty but awesome grind core character, but not sure how something translates to vinyl. I'm certain I need to mix in mono. Do I also have to keep the...
