    First time mastering advice

I use a very small amount of reverb on the master bus, almost always in fact. I am far from being a professional though.

New 'Alas, Tyranny' song, first time with a real amp [Symphonic death metal]

Obviously it sounds good and you are way better than I am at this stuff all the way around, but in order to try to give some constructive criticism: Not too crazy about the cymbal sounds and the synth parts are overpowering at times. I would bring the toms up some too as they get lost in the...

    Opeth Windowpane cover

I hope to try it out this weekend and if it is remotely decent, then I will message you and get the file to you so you can mix it with your existing tracks.

    Opeth Windowpane cover

Been meaning to do a vocal cover of this one for a while now. Guess that I can finally get off my lazy butt and actually do it, using this as the backing tracks. Thank you kindly.

    Dimarzio pickups for heavy rhythm

I have a set of D-activator Xs in a guitar that I used for recording. I enjoy the sound and do not plan to replace them any time soon. Having said that, I also have another guitar that has Seymour Duncan Invaders in it and I like those too. Definitely different. Both have something to offer me.

    64 bit

Sonar has been pretty stable for me since they got to X1c with the latest round of fixes. Until it got to that point it was months of crashes and annoyance..so make sure everything is up to date and backed up first. And make sure that you have the most recent updates for both Sonar and the pro...

    64 bit

Your 32 bit plug-ins will still work, but you will need a bridge for it to happen. And that seems to be where most of the problems pop up. Currently I am trying to move to only 64 bit plug ins as I am sick of repeated crashes that the error reporter indicates stem from bitbridge. Despite all of...

    My current production

Not sure if this is accepted practice among the actual professionals, but I have started to de-ess things in stages throughout the chain until things are sorted out. So instead of one heavy handed instance trying and failing to correct the problem, I do a few more gentle instances along the way...

    Death'n'Roll/D-beat/HM-2 - need fresh ears!

Really like how the guitars, bass and drums turned out. Vocals are definitely the weak point by a long shot. Thanks for sharing this.

    [DJENT] First paying gig!

Not trying to be a dick and I understand that you are using a particular method. Bottom line is that it sounds bad and super fake. As mentioned earlier, it is good practice for you and you can't be held responsible for how the band wants things to be done. If going down this road, have they...

    [DJENT] First paying gig!

Brutal. You are a brave soul. Sounds like you used Guitar Pro midi into a cheap guitar vsti then reamped it and then chopped it into little pieces and glued it back together. At least you are getting paid and learning something in the process. This stuff is so slow and easy to play on...

    Death'n'Roll/D-beat/HM-2 - need fresh ears!

Sounding really good now. I agree about automating the overheads. Better to wait until the end for that, I would think. Good luck on finishing up the recording and getting everything done mixing wise. Definitely will want to check out the finished release.

need a few mixtips (instrumental inside)

A couple of quick impressions: I would lower the toms (rolls), overheads (big crashes seem too loud) and snare some. And I would try to layer another snare sample with that real dry one that you have and maybe make it a bit more "splashy" and less "snappy". Overall it sounds good. Guitar...

I created an account at last

I am pretty sure that I know the sound that you are shooting for. Sounds overly thin to me. Besides that, I think that it is sounding pretty good.

    Death'n'Roll/D-beat/HM-2 - need fresh ears!

So, what is in your bag of tricks for working on bass tracks? Doing some pre-production tone and mix tests for an ep and am kind of struggling to get the bass just right. Have been trying out the TSE B.O.D. on one of the two tones that I am blending together and using some saturation and...
