Guitar EQ question, my ears are getting old...

Hey guys, long time no see! General question: How the hell do you guys keep your rhythm guitars from being too harsh and piercing in the upper mids and treble areas when using amp sims & impulses? I can eq it and make it better, but then it starts to sound dull and lifeless instead. I use the...

    Sneap snare without reverb?

I seem to remember Andy mentioned something about added reverb when he posted the samples several years ago.

    That "Clayman" sound....

Well, one of them did but I hit him even more with the Timeworks Compressor and then he was out flat. So what's new here?

    That "Clayman" sound....

My last post was May 11th, 2008. Then I decided I hate you all. No, kidding of course..... it was just that my "stuff to do" / "available time to do it" ratio got off the chart in a very wicked way. So I tried to reduce my forumnia. I still use EZdrummer by the way. :-D Not much have changed...

Amplitube Metal is out (no joke!)

Tried it. Can't get anything good out of it. Sounds like a fuzz box. It seems Revalver is still unsurpassed. But I still use my PODxt most of the time because I prefer a hassle free hardware solution over any software. Maybe I'm getting old.

Cannot get a good snare out of EzDrummer + DFH for the life of me

Stock EZdrummer pop/rock with some additional eq+compressors: Kryptillusion - Frozen (pre prod demo)

Podxt sounds pretty dead when recorded

Also, try to compare the pre/post recording sound using headphones instead of speakers/monitors. Sometimes the acoustic sound from your guitar & strings will blend nicely with the distorted mess you hear from your monitors, and create the illusion of a great guitar sound even though it's not...

    Does anyone else HATE exdrummer???

Ezdrummer is a great tool, and it sounds decent as long as you stay away from the DFH expansion. I use the pop/rock kit for the Kryptillusion pre production demos. Sounds good enough for my needs. Listen here.

Mastering with Peter In De Betou anyone?

He mastered the last Storyteller album. It was ok, but nothing special. I wish I'd done it myself.

8 strings: maybe a new trend?

Because I can't play otherwise. I always always always use 6 string guitars, and tune Bb to Bb (normal intervals, no drop tunings). I've owned a couple of 7 strings, but never liked'em. Even though I practiced quite a bit, I always played better with 6 strings.
