    Professional Headphones

another vote for the audio technica ath-m50s. they are really good. the sennheiser hd280s are good for tracking but i wouldnt mix with them. the m50s are the best headphones ive heard and you can get them for like $130ish. i would audition them before you buy anything.

Anyone here have a business license for engineering?

hey man. you dont have to be a llc to do write offs on your taxes. i am not saying it isnt a good idea, i am just saying you dont have to. get a good tax guy to do your stuff for you. save receipts. some years as a small studio you will spend more than you make. those years you will get a bigger...

Controller (Mackie VS Presonus VS ??)

if not a central station i would go with the sm pro. passive is where its at for monitor control. the sm pro is cheaper than the big nob so i would go with that. if you can afford it the central station is great. i had the samson before that and it was ok. the central station was a noticable...

Does Planet Z/Zeuss have a website?

dont quote me on this but im pretty sure he still uses pro tools with a pro control surface. last he told me he was using klein & hummel 0300 for monitors with a central station(i think he was going to replace the central station though). im sure he has a bunch of toys at this point. its not...

Anyone here have a business license for engineering?

im saying i pay taxes on my taxable income and also write off expenses. i do have a really good home studio even with paying the taxes. i want to cover my butt with the irs. eventually i will get a business license as well. writing off expenses allows me to buy more gear. you have much to...

What should I get for my studio? -1000€

how about: chameleon labs 7602- about 800.00usd fmr rnc- about 200.00usd audix d6- about 180.00 that would leave roughly 400.00 for a ribbon mic(fathead, karma k6, etc.) good luck man.

Anyone here have a business license for engineering?

ive been paying taxes on my studio income for the last 5 years and my tax guy said that was probably enough for a studio in my home. if you are renting a commercial space, i would definetly get one.

    Tascam US-2400, controllers in general

the us2400 doesnt display any words at all on the led. the led is for panning and controling plug in parameters. yes the fader banks include the aux(group) channels(in pt and dp for sure). the new euphonix system looks sweet. more money but looks way better. i like the us2400 for what it...

    Can't break out

i think its a hard business no matter what. its part hustle and part word of mouth. until you record a band that actually does something, business will be inconsistant. i am going through about a month of downtime right now. whenever that happens i wonder why i do this and think about giving up...

    At2020 vs. Nt5 for overheads.

at 2020s work fine. i use them myself and they yield good sounding cymbals. i prefer ldcs over sdcs a lot of the time though. i would prefer a pair of at 4040s for overheads though. you can good results with either the 2020s or the nt5s if they are recording good sounding cymbals and a drummer...

    Basic acoustic treatment help?

i dont understand why you think that for now you just cant get some mineral wool and any old fabric that you can breathe through well(king size sheet?) and "gift wrap" the panels. use a safety pin on the back to hold it closed. it will work as well as what you think you need to do. and you can...

    Basic acoustic treatment help?

i just changed the fabric two of my 4" mineral wool traps were wrapped in. total time, about 5 min. skip the frames(for now) wrap them in fabric and put them in the corners and maybe a couple on the walls(first reflection points). it will take less time than you think and they will work just as...
