The writing, vibe, and performances are just brilliant. It's not as good as "In Absentia," but it's damn...

Hey folks, The idea of ancient Egypt as the source of mystical knowledge is a myth of the Renaissance that came about through a horrendous mistake dating a series of texts called the Corpus Hermeticum. To put it briefly, a series of Gnostic texts (3rd-4th centuries AD) were mistakenly thought...

    Hey Ken...

Just got the Feb. '07 issue of Guitar Player in the mail and saw a short but sweet interview with Scott McGill. They pimp the new MMS disc a bit. I don't think I've ever seen any LE bands/artists profiled in a "mainstream" magazine before, so it was a bit of a shock! NP: Transatlantic "Live...

Bands you think people should check out

I'm going to second this. "A Perfect Forever" is an excellent prog-metal album. Complex without going overboard, melodic, chunky...what's not to love? I highly recommend this fine band. NP: Adagio "Underworld"

Name an album or new group that..

I strongly believe that Opeth's "Ghost Reveries," Riverside's "Second Life Syndrome," and Ayreon's "The Human Equation" will be considered classics of the "oughts" by fans of heavier prog for years to come. NP: The Aurora Project "Words Unspoken"

who do you think are the best bands actually in the prog metal scene?

Ayreon Dream Theater Opeth Pain of Salvation Riverside Tool This is the top tier of contemporary progressive metal as far as I'm concerned. NP: Dream Theater "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence"

    Sampler track listing question

Has anyone posted the track listing of the PPUSAVII sampler? I would be very grateful if someone could either do that or point me to where I could find it out. Cheers. NP: Celtic Frost "Monotheist" (I can't believe how much I'm digging this!)

The music nerd in me has to speak

I used to have my entire collection organized by date of release, then within that alphabetized by artist. One time my uncle asked me if I would notice if he switched two CDs. I said yes. To test me, he switched a pair. I took one look at my rack at correctly noted that he had put Rush's "Caress...
