10 best obscure prog/power CDs you own

I know Letter X a little Glenn though I haven't played any of it in a long time. Wasn't Michael Bormann in the band for an album? Now that I'm listening to this song I can see I need to try this album again. Cool band indeed.

Michael was indeed a member at one point.

As for the power, how about Voice? "Trapped in Anguish" or "Golden Signs" perhaps?

Hollow is a good one. The second album is good too although the production on both albums is dodgy. I have both on CD.

Tried Nation Beyond. Seems so so but didn't grab me but there's only one song on youtube that I can see.
Tried Payne's Gray. Sound's interesting though the vocals were a bit dodgy to my ears.
Mezarkabul is pretty obscure to me. It's a good one though. Of course they used to be Pentagram and their Anatolia album is one I own. Apparently there were bigger than Metallica in Turkey. I have the Mezarkabul as mp3s somewhere I believe. Will have to dig it out.
Black Symphony - I used to own but I must have sold it.
Good to see some Kenziner love. I also liked his follow up band Virtuocity which had two albums but had no joy at all in terms of success in the power metal community that is.

I know Voice and used to own Golden Signs but I sold it. It was just one of those that was good but I got rid of it in the end.

I just remembered a band I liked a lot. Valley's Eve - Deception of Pain. A really solid album of slightly prog power metal from RD Liapakis of Mystic Prophecy fame. Haven't listened to it an age but I have the original CD. It was really heavy and crunchy for a prog album. I think they gave up once they realised that Mystic Prophecy was enough hehe!

Only one band came to mind, and I do not know if they are obscure in this forum. Sortilege from France. Trad metal from the 80's. Anything by them but Metamorphose in particular.

Black Symphony- Tears of Blood. (Worth mentioning again.)
Black Symphony- Breathe (Also titled The Black Symphony on other versions)
Black Abyss- Angels Wear Black.
Black Destiny- Black Is Where Our Hearts Belong.
Dreamtail- Ocean's heart.
Ironware- Break Out.
Filthy Lucre- Popsmear.
Kerion- Holy Creatures Quest
Riot Act- What is Real.
Stormwitch- Dances with Witches. Witchcraft.
Twilight Guardians- Wasteland.
Timeless Miracle- Into the Enchanted Chamber.
Excelsis- Kurt Of Koppigen. The Legacy of Sempach. Tales of Tell.

Not sure if you'd call these obscure, but they're never discussed, and rarely even mentioned here.
Axxis- Eyes Of Darkness. Kingdom of the Night. Time Machine. Paradise In Flames.
Domain- Last days of Utopia
Heed- The Call
Iron Mask- Hordes of the Brave. Shadow of the Red Baron.
Magic Kingdom- Metallic Tragedy.
Full Strike- We Will rise.
White Skull- Tales from the North. Public Glory Secret Agony.

One of the best progressive metal albums I've ever heard. I really wish this band would release another album, but I highly doubt it...

:kickass:

I looked around the other day to see if they were working on anything or had any sort of presence of the internet, couldn't find a damn thing. :(

My favorite obscure prog metal disc is easy.

CLOCKWORK - Surface Tension

Some others:

Dali's Dilemma - Manifesto for Futurism
Payne's Gray - Kaddath Decoded
Mind's Eye - A Gentlemen's Hurricane
Vauxdvihl - To Dimension Logic
Mind Key - Journey of a Rough Diamond
Greyhaven - Greyhaven
Lemur Voice - Insights
Madsword - The Global Village
Mayadome - Near Life Experience

Twilight Guardians- Wasteland.
Timeless Miracle- Into the Enchanted Chamber.

Yep some nice picks Magius. Timeless Miracle especially is just brilliant. What a shame they could never get it together for the follow up album. There are some demo clips around and they sound even better than the debut. Those two White Skull albums are by far their best. They more or less completely lost the plot once they lost the lady growler they had. The two Iron Mask disks are both great and I have both. Some of these are not that obscure though and get mentions here from time to time though of course not exactly household names. Heed was good but nothing compared to LH. I am still waiting for Daniel to return to Lost Horizon and make the 3rd masterpiece. Once can dream can't one?

AB-SO-FUCKING-LUTELY

Huge fan of Dwelling in the Out and took me a while however long ago to track down an original copy of this CD

LOVE it

Bad day at work? My buddy and I will invariably send emails to each other with

"WHO HIRED ME??!"

(best track on the album)

It's so cool seeing DR on your list because the lead guitarist Dave Souza is one of my oldest friends since high school and I was in my first band with him called Syrinx. :headbang:

P.S. I can work on a Digital Ruin reunion show for a future ProgPower ;)

Name your price. I would gladly sponsor them.

"Listen" is one of my all time favorite albums, and I have yet to get a copy. Would gladly shell out a reasonable amount of money to throw away the burned CD. Sonically, this album has to be killer on vinyl. One can dream...

Any more trad power type releases?
What about Pathos - Hoverface? Unless you think they're too thrashy, they were a great band. Their third album, Katharsis, was also good.

There was another great Swedish band called Divine Sin. They released two amazing albums in the mid-90s, but they definitely had a heavy thrash vibe going on.

If you like Mezarkabul's Unspoken, you might want to check out its follow-up, Bir. It's in the same style but with Turkish lyrics.

For prog, has anyone mentioned Divine Regale - Ocean Mind?

Lots of cool stuff so far, in no particular order other than alphabetical:

Bad Moon Rising - Opium For The Masses
Brazen Abbot - Bad Religion
Clockwise - Nostalgia
D.A.D. - No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims
Dog Face - Unleashed
Dr. Sin - s/t
Great King Rat - Out Of The Can
Glory - Crisis VS Crisis
Harrow - The Rising Phoenix
Hollow - Architect of the Mind
Human Clay - U4IA
Jackal - Vague Visions
220 Volt - Eye To Eye
Trust - Repression
Trust - Savage

I could probably dig deeper, and find some others.....;)
