So like, I watched this 100 metal moments yesterday,
and I decided that the little respect I had for VH1 is gone, and this time - for good.
The 100 countdown was sadly enough, yet not surprising at all, mostly about hard rock and early heavy metal. I am absolutely not denying the huge contribution to the metal scene, from bands like KISS, Motley Crew, WASP, DIO, and so on
Hell, I even own all of those bands CDs.
However, when you have a show on VH1 that allowed itself to take a legitimate name like 100 most metal moments you do expect a little more of that.
VH1 or not VH1- it SUCKED.
Those old geezers at that rotten station showed their real age with that show. It seems like they have already made up their mind about the moments that will be on that show, and then they gave the new crowd some crumbs of newer bands.
The big ground-breaking story of Euronymous and the killing in Norway (surely youve all heard about that) got number 69.
sixty*fucking*nine! Something that people still talk about nowadays and considered to be one of the biggest turning points for Black Metal got number 69.
But the Porn video tape of Pamela-whats-her-name and Tommy Lee got number 21?
Hello? Does anybody need a major kick in your behind there at VH1?
Another highlight, was mentioning the big story about Gorgoroth in Poland (should you wonder: they had goat heads on stage, naked chicks on crosses, blood everywhere, and the polish police got them arrested and they had to leave the country immediately) Not that im saying this story deserves to be on the top of the list, not at all, Mayhem has done this long before Gorgoroth have had their first beer legally, but to call Gorgoroth Death Metal ? who what where?
Yes, they have some death metal *touches* in their music, but its like saying Age Of Sanity is progressive rock. Jesus Christ.
But that wasnt all bad, the top 20 included highlights in Dios Wasps and Tommy Lees career, things that only if youre 45 years old and stopped listening to metal 20 years ago, would sound true to you, things that even I, that love those old heavy bands, got sick of hearing and thought: really? Thats on the top 20?
But thats not the worst part. Oh no.
Boys and gals, the worst part of that countdown was the fact that through the whole 100 moments, there was not a single word about Thrash Metal. NOTHING.
One of the most important genre of metal music, the music that started Death metal and extreme metal in general- got ZERO.
The only thing they mentioned about the legendary Motorhead was a dumb story about a kid they invited to their studio that later on got to be a huge metal reviewer for big magazines. Woo-hoo big fucking deal.
What about Motorheads contribution to the scene, you morons????
What about the San Francisco scene ??? what about the early metallica?
Testament? The death of Kliff? What about saying a single bloody word about Death Metal ??? Chuck Shuldiner? ANYTHING?
I dont know why I get so mad about it, after all its VH1. I shouldnt expect too much,
But 100 moments without a single word about Thrash Metal just freaks me out.
oh yeah, Peter Steel is fucking disgusting, i wouldnt touch him with a stick.
