Im thinking of making either a 2x12 or a 4x12 cab. Is there much difference? I plan to use v30 speakers. Are 2x12 cabs good for recording?

Well the deal is that a 4x12 sounds like a 4x12 because of the internal interaction and acoustic coupling of the speakers. A 4x12 sounds different than a 2x12 or a 1x12. Not to say that you can't get a great tone with a different speaker cab but 4x12's have a certain sound even if you are just micing one speaker. If you aren't really good at furniture carpentry then I'd suggest you buy a cab instead . Getting all the panels to line up like they do from the factory isn't easy unless you build a large jig to aline them.

I would just buy an avatar cab unless you just really want to build something. The avatar won't cost much more than the v30's.

I found an Harley Benton 2x12 with v30s for 200.... and I bought my v30s for 180.
There are 2 cases: 1- They pay wood and speakers a pair of cent. 2- I don't know...
