The first part of my last haul came, so here's the review.

Saxon - "Lionheart": for the complete one check http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163363

But I must say that now having the real product at hand souds as fresh and good as when I heard the MP3s.

If is true that some people are finding this album annoying due to its close sound to Euro Power Metal (especially on the fast drumming by Jorg Michael), to me is nothing to be ashamed or disdain. For starters is not a copycat, nor another album like *put your favorite power album here*, is Saxon with a heavy and fast attitude. The album has a lot of "Killing Ground" and "Unleash The Beast", Biff vocals are as great as ever and the guitars by Quinn and Scarrat are so majestically classic, that never wil convince me that this is not one of the best albums of 2004 hands down.

Warlock - "Burning The Witches": with shame I must confess that took me 20 years to get this one  . Is an exceptional GOOD heavy metal album. Beyond the vocals by Doro Pesch, the craftwork of guitars and the rythm section is so clean and ponderous, that today the album sound as fresh as it was 20 years ago. Frankyl hear it back to back with Saxon new album I can't find much difference in the music approach (of course it is in the playing and producing). I mean Saxon could have made the album in 1984, or Warlock could have made this album today and both fit perfectly. Moreover Warlock album is much faster than Saxon was actually in 1984  Indeed they had a vision, and the vision stood tall. Stuff like 'Homicide Rocker', 'After The Bomb', 'Metal Racer' really make you headbang like nuts.
Want some old school and maybe like me hadn't got it yet? Then here's for you.

Sucidal Tendencies - "Lights Camera Revolution": a weird purchase for me. For years HIWLT was the only album I had from this band who IMO put the middle road between thrash/hardcore/groove in ths spotlight. Recently I also acquired "Join The Army" (1987), being that one more hardcorish but quite thrashy. LCR is thrash but unlike its predecessors begins to loose some track of the North with songs like 'Lovely' or 'Send Me Your Money'. Besides a couple more also didn't taste very good at first hearing. I guess that this is a band that either you love, or rather stay around HIWLT without much movement. 'You Can't bring Me Down', 'Alone' and 'Emotion No. 13' really give you enough to consider that your money wasn't a total waste.

i always liked both Warlock and Suicidal Tendencies... though i dont have their albums anymore because i lost them.. I will get them again... i saw Suicidal live with Megadeth and Bodycount years ago.. i dont really remember the show because i was probably stoned or drunk but i do remember i enjoyed the show...

The new Saxon is excellent. I've admittedly never been a fan but I am really impressed with this one. Nice and heavy with some great hooks!

No comment on Warlock.

I was a big Suicidal fan back in my angrier days, especially Wyvern's pickup LCR.
"Can you say feel like shit? Yeah, maybe sometimes I do feel like shit! I ain't happy about it but I'd feel like shit than be full of shit!"

Classic.

Interesting point you have here. Angrier days. I wonder if I was angrier 20 years ago when I started with metal, I guess I'm angrier today.

There's a lot of anger in my life, but I don't know if I need necessarily angrier music and/or lyrics. Moreover today I'm more receptive to bands I wouldn't touch years ago, also to softer stuff.

In any case music to me is a companion and not precesily a way to chanalize any inner fury, but surely you have brought something to think about.

Well, in my teens when I discovered metal, I was mainly into thrash and death metal, as opposed to today, when vast majority of my collection is heavy and melodic thrash metal. :D
I still like to listen certain death metal albums (early Morbid Angel, Pestilence's "Testimony...", anything by Death) and many "unmelodic" thrash albums (Slayer, Dark Angel...), but I'm not as crazy about them as I used to be.
