.38mm plectrums..good enough for napalm death...

For anyone saying thin picks are better,
Imagine hitting a church bell with a wooden plank, listen to it.
Now imagine hitting it with a sheet of cardboard, listen again.

sounds like shit huh?

Imagine painting the thin edge of a wooden plank a paint brush, feel it.
Now imagine painting it with a brick, feel it.

Feels like shit, doesn't it?

I have quite a collection of picks and when recording DIs, I'd say I can spend at least 1 hour finding the best sounding one. Sometimes I'll even use different ones for different riffs.
The thickness of the pick alone is not that relevant, as the strings gauge has a lot to do with which pick works/sounds best.

I remember jamming with a gypsy kind of guy a couple months ago, and the guy was just using HUUUUUUUGE picks, like 3+ mm, but he had one of the best sounding pick attack I've ever heard on an acoustic guitar, but obviously these wouldn't work as good in another context.

I think new picks with a few seconds of shredding are the best. I do believe the thicker picks have a better tone to them and also believe if you can pick well on a thicker pick you will be able to pick well on a thinner pick as well. BTW, Thinner picks tend to Bow and I hate that, When a pick starts to bow or get worn I toss it for a new one right away. That's just me.

Napalm Death is not the authority on great sounding andclean guitar tracks btw.
I bet those guys just say fuck it and cut their picks from an old credit card if they feel like it.
