I'm currently recording a band who's bassist's bass sucks. I'm going to use my jazz bass, however, I always play it in standard and never tune it down. They're in drop B and I'm curious if you guys think something like a 55-110 would be thick enough? I've been using a 50-105 set with the E string swapped out for a 110 in standard tuning. However, I'm not sure if the 110 is going to be thick enough to keep it form being too floppy. And since this is for one band I'm really not looking to modify my bass (grind out the nut) in any way since this is kind of a one time thing. I would appreciate any input! Thanks!

I'm currently using a 130-95-70-50 set of Prosteels (bought individually) for B-standard on my 34" bass, and even that feels a bit light on the bottom two (.135/.100 would be ideal for tuning stablility IMO); however, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of tension for being able to beat the hell out of the bottom strings for maximum clank factor (and not get my wimpy guitarist hands totally worn-out in the process :D)

Okay good to know! Thanks for the tips guys. I was gonna have them track on my 4 string jazz bass but i think i'll just have them track it all on my 5 string to avoid having to modify my bass.
