Hey guys,

Friend of mine is interested in getting a 5150 Mark 1, and he'd be running it through a Marshall 1960A cab. Since I'd never heard this combo before, I didn't know whether to recommend the head to him or not.

Would any of you happen to have any clips of this combination? If not, but you've heard it before, how do you feel it sounds?

i have not only heared it before, i actually own that setup. sounds stellar for thrash/speed/death metal, go for it baby

sounds great! the 5150 sounds mint through any cab.

sounds better through an orange with v30s tho

"Tell him to swap out 2 of the G12T75's and replace them with 2 V30's, he'll be in heaven."
better yet, tell him to buy 2 v30s and shove em up his ass....

v30s = crap....*imho*

Yeah right, so andy almost always records crap speakers.:goggly:

That's a very good sounding setup. I don't usually care for the 75s, but they do seem to work well with the 5150. I've seen that same setup a number of times, used by local and touring acts, and it sounds great when dialed in right.

but then again, in my (maybe not so humble  ) opinion nevermore's dead heart in a dead world is the best sounding CD andy has ever done, and guess what, they used marshall 1960 cabs loaded with those "crappy" 75w celestions for that one.

I love V30's, and when you mix them with G12T75's, you get the best of both worlds. Very balanced tone, really thick.

EDIT: And Fredrick Nordstrom uses V30 loaded cabs on almost everything he does, I'd say he gets some killer tones.

Thanks dudes. Thanks kao. Sounded pretty much identical to how I'd thought it would in my head.

Speaking of Nordstrom, I'll run this ever-unaswered question by again... I don't suppose any of you know what was used to track guitars on Nightrage's 'Sweet Vengeance'?

I would just assume 5150 or Engl Savage 120? Sounds like a 5150 to me. I wish Nordstrom had a forum, there's tons of stuff I'd love to ask him about various albums he's produced.

I don't know, it almost sounds too big and full to be a 5150, to me. Even with his dual-mic method. ENGL Savage I could definitely believe.

I agree, he should definitely have a forum, so we could nag him to no end :).

EDIT: Actually that you mention it, it does sound a bit like a 5150. Don't know how it never occurred to me in the past.

Haha, man I would ask him so many questions he would probably shut down the forum. :(
