5150 question

As long as you stick with good quality tubes(JJ, Tung Sol, Ruby, etc) you should be able to get that sound. They don't have a huge effect on the sound of the amp. The tubes that have the most effect on the tone are pretty much v1, v2, and half of v3...on a 5150. The other preamp tubes are for effects loop and phase inverter so if you want to save some money you can go a little cheaper on these(but don't get crap ones obviously). I like 6l6gcs in 5150s.

after fiddling with it for about a half hour, i figured that out...

Thanks though...

anything else anyone can recommend for a sick sound coming out of it? mostly settings... I'm finding shit settings that are all either to fizzy or an over abundance of mids when I mess with it...

Also, how can I tell which preamp tubes are the V1, V2 etc.?

MY SETTINGS ARE..
green channel crunch in,
gain - 6
bass - 6
mid - 5
treble - 5
post gain - 4
resonance - 6
prescence - 5

bear in mind this is with passive pickups and a tube screamer in front

My Settings:

MAXON OD820

DRIVE at 9 o clock
TONE At 12 o clock
LEVEL At 3 o clock

5150

Green Channel Bright and Crunch On

gain - 5
bass - 6.5
mid - 2.5
treble - 6
post gain - 3 or 5
resonance - 6
prescence - 6

This goes int a Marshall 1960a cabinet (GT75s)

v1 is closest to the input the net one is v2 then v3 etc.

if you are using the red channel...you will have lots of fuzz

looking from the front, V1 is the first little tube (from left), V2 the second, etc... and the last little tube is the phase inverter. (if you have the input at left....viceversa if you have the input at right..V1 is the closest to the input)

V1 is almost always closest to the input on any amp...no matter which side the input is on.
If the input is on the right then v1 is furthest right...if input is left then v1 is furthest left.

my settings
(distortion)
pre gain - 4.5
bass - 4.5
mid - 6
treble -
post gain - between 2 and 5 depending on useage
resonance - 8
presence - 9

stole the setting off the parkway drive guitarist when my band played with them
