Yeah its my favorite at the moment. I have a new favorite every week. I think it went from Godhead's Lament to Deliverance to A Fair Judgment this month.Forest-of-October said:My personal favorite also at the moment. Not that I dont appreciate this piece as a whole but the parts that stand out the most to me are the outro, the short interlude by Mike, and the conjoined solos (including the build up) This solo, and Mike's in The Leper Affinity are the type of solos I enjoy the most. The ones that flow through so nicely and just overwhelm you. Sends a shiver down my spine and thats what I appreciate in guitar solos. I only wish I was better at playing them
Also, its nice to see hear a comment like that from Moonlapse. I LOVE FAF, it's so beautiful and so full of feeling. One of my favorites off of Deliverance. I honestly cant understand why most fans dont appreciate this one as much...

And I know there's nothing I can say to you, because if I tell you you're a dumbass and you probably desperately need to branch out of metal to figure out what's actually good, you could just post a bunch of bands that you like that aren't metal, and consider yourself open minded. You may or may not being lying when you do so, because nobody actually knows you.
The second thing I could do is bitchslap some Jimmypageisgreat into your face, but then you could start moanin about how sloppy his solos are, because that's what this is particular comment is about. Then it's just one person's taste against another. But in the grand scheme of things, it's Millions of Led Zeppelin Fans vs. Some People Who Probably Haven't Given Them A Good Listen But Hate Anything That Could Possibly be Played on the Radio OR Doesn't Fall Snugly Into Their Genre OR Can't Listen to Songs about Women and Having a Good Time Once in a While. Won't bother with that fight.
But on the internet, the best fallback is denial. Anybody can say "no, that's not why," and like I said earlier, nobody knows the truth. Generally, when I've run into people who dislike LZ, it boils down to being one of those reasons, or Plant's voice is irritating. Or y'know, just don't like em. But to have a complete lack of repect for them is unheard of and brazenly ignorant, because atleast 9 out of 10 musicians nowadays get heavy inspiration from those guys. Not just when they were big, but now. When they were big, it was even more ridiculous the amount of kids trying to wail on their guitars like Page. Stylistically, everything you listen to with an electric guitar that's come out in the past 30 years can probably be closely linked with Jimmy Page somehow.
Or I could look further down the thread and see that you not only think comparing Opeth to one of the greatest rock bands in history is a diss to them, but you also casually use the word pwnz. You're lost, I can't deal with that.
I have chosen to be LOOONG WINDED AND BORING, and defend the honor of a band that deserves it, just over a teeny tiny little thing. They earned it, just by being Led fucking Zeppelin. Mike and Peter would probably be humbled to be compared to those masters, because they appear to have brains in their skulls.

blimey said:Well, it's fantastic to see that you know how arguments work, and I congradulate you for that.
As for sticking with my original post, that Led Zeppelin should never be compared to Opeth, I have several points to make.
I'm not going to flame LZ for being "dumbass overrated rock n' rollers", because, as you said, it's all a matter of taste. We cannot compare a classic rock band to something so underground as Opeth on a basis of their fans. We know that, #1, LZ is more accesible (in terms of finding their materal, and in terms of music) and #2 LZ was one of the first major rock bands - of course they are famous.
My point is, the musical geniosity of Mikael Akerfeldt simply outweighs Page and the rest of LZ. And no, I'm not talking about my musical preference, but simply Mikael's ability to create such flowing, speaking solos.
In all honesty, if the general public was more acceptant of heavy metal, and death vox, Opeth would be a phenomenal band, bigger than LZ. But this just isn't the case. And I don't think there are many that can say LZ is a better (musically, not in taste; but in the sheer quality of the music) band than Opeth.
