A Few Kick and Snare Samples (as if we need more!)

Thanks. I wasn't really going for any specific style of metal - just sort of a good meat and potatoes thump with some attack to it.

The chain (from what I remember) was something like:

Mics:

Beta 52 (in)
Oktava MK012 (out about three-four feet from kick)
SM81 above and back for ambiance (didn't use much in mix)

Pre's: True Systems Precision 8

Then, just a bit of EQ and a tiny smack of compression. Enveloped the hits for a smoother and tighter tail.

Nothing special but might be of use I hope!

Interesting chain. And what about the snare?

By the way this kick really has some shitty sounds around 800-1000 and 1600-2000 hz that want to be cut.

I am not going to use it right now, but it will work great for some old school melodic and heavy metal.

Mike,

I just got the chance yesterday to try out the cymbals and drums you sent me. They ruled. I really liked the chinas and hats. There was a nice amount of "ring" to them, instead of the annoying "swish" that I usually hear in those cymbals. I haven't tried the crashes or rides in a mix yet, but I will once I figure out which drum replacement/trigger plug I like best. Too bad BFD doesn't let you import samples.

Cheers,
Richard

First off, thanks for everyone's feedback. I am glad that the samples would be of some use to everyone here.

And, Doc, no problem on the cymbals! If you use them in some music, let us know. Would like to hear how they sound in music after all. Drums by themselves get a little lonely at times!

And, on that note, here are some more drums! It is another take on a Tama Starclassic 22" Maple kick:

See if those are useful - a bit more hyped and processed but hopefully cool maybe as a Drumagog sample.
