I have been trying to record some of my playing through the mic and have been having no luck, so I am looking for a decent program that I can play through the sound card and record it to mp3. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, it can;t be *too* expensive.

I have a Tascam US-122

The Tascam has a version version of Cubasis that came with it.

Home recording is a steep leaning curve but you do need an interface (24 bit 48Khz) and software to start.
Check the US-122 specs and get at least that level.

Don't bother getting software unless your sound card can do the 24 bit 48Khz recording resolution. If you have to get an interface they all come with a low end recording program.

What is your budget? For $150 you can get an Alesis IO2 which is a 24 bit 48khz interface that runs of USB and will have Cubase LE that will kick ass for just audio recording. Get a mic and you are in business.

I just bought one to replace the Tascam due to space issues.

I have heard a lot of guitarists rave about the Line 6 Pods as being awesome for recording purposes.

Without a decent interface you may be frustrated with the results. There is an inherent level of complexity in the term "simple" with recording. Every software is gonna have a learning curve.

Good luck in the search.

Tell me more about it, please.

cakewalk (sonar) is a mulitple track recording software program. i've used it for years and is very easy to use. just plug into your soundcard, click record and jam on. there's demos available but you won't be able to export the .wav file to mp3. there's lots of freeware that does that tho.
