A little help...

I'm wondering if anyone knows a good website that compiles upcoming heavy metal tourdates, especially in Europe. I'm headed that way in September (Scotland, Germany, Norway - with a possible stop in Sweden or Denmark). Searching Ticketmaster is vaguely helpful, but of course not all venues sell through them...

I was lucky enough to see Jethro Tull in England a couple years back, and I'm really hoping to catch a show while I'm there this time. I'll be there in the end of September, and the beginning of October.

Any advice welcome....

I think you'll have more luck if you go about it the other way around.
Decide who you would like to see and then check on their official web sites if they're busy touring, that's what I've done cause I also battled getting info out of ticket sites.
Another thing you can do is to speak to folks in here who stays in those areas, they'll know who's playing in their own backyards.
When I went to the Netherlands Carnut took me to go see Benedictum and Doro which was way cool, I don't know if that info even would have been on ticket sites.

Yeah, I'm using a whole hodge podge of methods. Motorhead and Saxon are touring in November...rats...but I'll find something. I've been checking schedules of bands, and of the cities I've visiting, but nothing promising yet. It's no big deal of course, but I'd really love to see a show in, say, Germany, where metal is so well liked. We'll see. Thanks for the response.

Metalstorm.ee has a pretty extensive event calendar and you can search by country. I didn't see anything particularly interesting in Germany except for Swordbrothers festival (probably sold out anyway) but I spotted some cool tours/festivals in the UK:

- Firewind touring with Kiuas as support (two really good live bands!)
- Summer's End festival with Threshold headlining
- Paradise Lost 20th anniversary show in London

I've been looking for a site like this for awile!

I usually use pollstar... but that doesn't let you filter on metal shows only. The metalstorm site looks pretty good. The metalseek site seems to be missing a lot of shows.

In this case go to this page and click on "On Stage". Then you've got several options:

If you scroll down and click on one of the letters from the alphabet, the touring dates of all bands/artists whose name starts with the letter you picked will be listed.

If you are looking for specific bands, scroll down a bit, type in the band's/artist's name in the first line titled "Bandname" and then click on "Suchen".

If you want to know which bands/artists are playing in Germany on a specific date, type in the date in the line titled "Datum" and click on "Suchen".

If you want to know which bands/artists will be playing in a specific city, type in the name of the city in the line titled "Ort" and click on "Suchen".

You may also combine some of these options.

I don't know if this is the best source for touring dates of metal bands in Germany, but give it a try, if you haven't already found something better.
