A New Earth!

Cool discovery. It'd be cool if there were intelligent beings there watching us or something. I'd like to be invaded.

No it isn't. It's orbiting one of the 100 closest-to-earth stars.

And calm down everybody. Here's what we know about the planet:
1) Close enough to earth in size and gravity
2) Temperatures that allow liquid water.

But hey hey, mars like that too!

So, just because it CAN have liquid water, it doesn't mean it DOES. So, chill. This is a promising discovery, but it might turn out to be nothing at all.
Leandro, it's 20 light years away, and we won't be able to get here possibly within the next 50 years. The technology we have cannot yet travel us to a 20 light years away destination in our own lifetime, unless there is a shuttle capable of intense speeds and able to contain thousands of people. Maybe there are funded projects such as the area 51 which could have futuristic technology to what mundanes would relate to

dude, a light year is the distance between objects if you were travelling at the speed of light for a year, so if we had that technology we could easily do it in our lifetime but no one would want to waste 20 years of their life to go to some rip off of what we've already got

roastpump

I said LIQUID water. Frozen water is about as relevant as a fart.

And also, NO ONE said that planet has an atmosphere. It probably does, due to its high gravity, but do not forget it orbits a RED DWARF, a faint star that probably was much stronger in the past. So its atmosphere might have been blown away eons ago.
And surprise. mars DOES have an atmosphere. It's composed primarily of carbon dioxide.

Then one could assume the planet once housed a civilization of lifeforms eons before us, that once lived and died off. A civilization of ZORAS!!!!

Dude. Even my 5 year old sister knows that. It's close in COSMIC terms. For fuck's sake, it's only five times farther away than the closest star to earth. That's something. Because it means that if we'll EVER be able to reach the closest star, then THAT one is also within our reach. That's what it means. Don't judge distance by our own current technology.
