A new metal mix of my intern's band.

Sounds quite good. Maybe ride the faders a little more or automate some of the guitar leads a little bit to have them stick out.

Are you sure you posted the right clip? And really no SSL?

:saint:

:yell:screw you guys! hahaha

and for the record, it's quite easy to maintain consistent dynamics on the overheads when you play nothing faster than 1/4 notes on any given cymbal:lol:

what kind of processing is happening to those gang vocals in the beginning?

There are about 8 takes of 6 dudes on that gang vocal part. Each track has a compressor and de esser on it. Then all 8 tracks are routed to a bus with another compresser, eq, and reverb. The reverb effect is a good bit heavier than i would use for normal gang vocals, but it fit this particular part well.

my gang vocals secret...

tube mic in omni directional
get everyone to circle around it, if one guy sticks out, put him 90 degrees off axis to the capsules

run that into an api and put a pad on the output so you can crank it

record 6 passes, pan left, then right, 3 times

put all of this into an LA2A, and crank the peak reduction

now turn up the gain until satisfied =]

got an example i can listen to of where you've used this method?

hey brian,
what settings did you use in real 6505 and od 808? i suppose you used od 808...haha

I'd also be interested to hear about this...
I usually keep my gain down around 3.5, my presence and resonance around 5-7. Mids around 4-6, treble 5-6 and low around 6-7. I've come close but not right on, and I am using the OD808 as well.
I have the post gain cranked at like 8 also through a Mesa Rectifier Cab.

What are you doing differently Brian?
