Got this from the Queensryche mailing list. I'm not familiar with the cruise line, but I might have to check this out, as it combines two of my great loves: music and the beach. Of course, I'd kind of like to see the QR set list before I call my travel agent...

QUEENSRYCHE TO GET SHIPROCKED IN NOVEMBER 2009 AS THEY HEADLINE A FIVE-DAY ROCK & ROLL MUSIC CRUISE

SHIPROCKED WILL SAIL NOVEMBER 15-20, 2009, TO JAMAICA AND GRAND CAYMAN ON THE MSC POESIA
FEATURING ON-BOARD CONCERTS, MEET AND GREETS, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR MUSIC FANS

In November 2009, QUEENSRYCHE -- Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, Scott Rockenfield, Eddie Jackson and Mike Stone -- will board the MSC Poesia to headline "ShipRocked," an unparalleled five-day rock and roll music cruise. Departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 15th, ShipRocked will sail to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, before returning on November 20th. QUEENSRYCHE Campaign members will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets during an exclusive fan club pre-sale beginning Monday, November 10, 2008.

"Everyone in the band is excited to share this new performing experience with our fans," states QUEENSRYCHE front man Geoff Tate. "We'll crank it up, drink some wine and bask in the sun on the Caribbean together. The ShipRocked cruise will definitely be rockin' come next November and we hope you can join us in the festivities."

In addition to QUEENSRYCHE, ShipRocked will feature live performances on multiple stages by Skid Row, EndeverafteR, Lynam, and several other major artists being announced soon. Throughout the cruise, ShipRocked passengers will be treated to an array of on-board events and activities, including meet and greets with the artists, theme nights, heavy metal karaoke, contests, charity auctions, and maybe even a few all-star jam sessions!

Everyone on-board will feel like a rock star, as they bask in both sun and luxury on MSC's Poesia. The Poesia is the third spectacular vessel in the MSC Cruise Line's "Musica" family of ships. This amazing super-liner features MSC Cruise Line's signature Italian inspired decor, impeccable service, sumptuous cuisine in multiple restaurants, beautiful swimming pools, hot tubs, a full-service spa and fitness center. Nearly two-thirds of the ship's staterooms include private balconies!

ShipRocked will truly be the ultimate rock and roll vacation and backstage pass!

Pricing for ShipRocked begins at only $599 per passenger, with early booking discounts and exclusive passenger packages available.

Now if Chris DeGarmo were still with them this would be a possibility but IMO Queensryche without DeGarmo and Skid Row without Baz are just not the same. Now if there were a cruise with Helloween and Gamma Ray that would rule. Can you imagine this!

What is it with all the 80's hard rock bands and their cruises? I believe Motley Crue started this, so they'll all have to do it now I guess. If Queensryche would put out some decent material they might not have to do gimmicks like this. Sorry, but I haven't had much respect for this band in the last two years. I even got rid of all my Ryche stuff sometime back. :Puke:

Lol, I never understood this mentality... even if you don't like their last few discs, why would that affect your view of older albums you like?

I see where he is coming from though.

I mean, when a band you love starts pumping out weak material, it can distort your view of their classic material.

This has happened in the past few years for me with bands like Edguy, Iced Earth, Rhapsody, etc, etc.

Eventually, you reconnect with the classic material, but when bands you used to love put out weak releases, you discover other bands and shift your attention and dollars that way.

Well, it's rare that I take it that far, so lets be clear about that. With that said, I just simply grew tired of being loyal to this band. Personally, I feel like I gave them chance after chance, but I just got junk in return. Simply put, I just got sick of hearing about the band, Operation Mindcrime I & II and the whole mess.

Exactly! There's too much good stuff for me to discover without me wasting my time listening to Hear In the Now Frontier, Q2K and Tribe. Operation Mindcrime II was simply the last straw. Ronnie James Dio couldn't even save that release for me and that's sad!

They learned the same thing the Folkie bands figured out a long time ago - their audience can afford it, and it's an easier sell to a reluctant spouse since there's an actual cruise involved...

Yep.
For me...this is like the ultimate vacation.
Metal, a bunch of people with like interests, a cruise in the friggin' Carribbean, and tons o' fun in the sun.
I've only been on two cruises, but they are so much fun! Adding Metal to it only sweetens the deal.

Re: Rock Stars

Helloween acted like assholes during their Meet and Greet. Deris also no showed. Now, that doesn't detract from their music but I'd be quite hesitant plunking down the $ for a "VIP" package again. So, if they ever come back to Western Canada (unlikely), I'd probably skip their show and put the $ towards ProgPower or a Heaven and Hell VIP package.

Gamma Ray however, were nice guys and Kai was especially decent to everyone.

Q -
Wouldn't you piss and moan about those rock stars in Helloween who made you wait an hour????

Controversial opinion ahead....

Queensryche have never put out a stinker. The albums from the 90's marked a significant change in direction but that never bothered me as I wouldn't have wanted to hear retreads of Roads to Madness, London, Breaking the Silence etc etc. HITNF, Q2K and Tribe never once tried to recapture their unique 80's vibe and that is what makes those albums enjoyable to me.
