About guitar (recorded tones) modeller or...

Kinda "Slate-ish" idea but for guitar players, usable tones or not? However this ( http://www.kolumbus.fi/fractal.wonderland/quicktest.mp3 ) is how close I get compared to some (read any) recorded tones with my DIY all tube pre/power amp and cab sims. Its great fun and using right reverbs and effects would take the sound still closer.

Then again, which machine would you like to see first: A) an amp which models other amps really good and then improves (let the user tweak) from that point or B) amp which has tons of presets of recorded tones and is used with full range speakers?

Just seeking some inspiration and opinions.

Some of them are very close to the original!! Very interesting and funny sample, I will listen to it some more times to give a better opinion.
What did you use for the tones?

I have this ( http://www.kolumbus.fi/fractal.wonderland/07102008184.jpg ) as a "preamp" with impulses. The amp has separated gain stages and eq's for all (clean, crunch, modern) channels plus one shared active eq. So you can pretty much study/tweak your tone from there and do final adjustments with cab sims. Think all this could be "automated" and installed in the amp itself...if there was just some more space left. (Luckily IRF820 mosfets work perfectly as cathode followers in tube circuits or the tube count would have been even higher.)

Thanks. Think I'll (eventually) lean towards A too. Made some tests tonight between different real amps (and even vst plug-tones) I have here and was surprised how well my hot rodded JMP turned to almost any higher gain tones.

But trying to match your stuff to those recorded tones is very addictive and needs another try soon with better cab sims (I used Pod XT sims in the clip).
