Addictive drums?

I really like the fullness of the addictive drums!

Granted, the copperware is not all that it could be, but with care you can get some fat and full kicks, toms and snare out of this software!

Bob recommends.

I know others that are happy with AD and others not. I owned AD but sold it and bought SD. AD is fine if you just want to focus on guitars and dont want to tweak much. But if you like it, SD is much better for that. And you dont find any Metal Foundry pack to AD. Or Evil Drums for that matter. :hotjump:

How about user interface - what's easiest to get a great sound of without tweaking a lot? And has the easiest midi browsing?

Superior is best for tweaking. No doubt. As for midi browsing... well I just did a lot of trial and error but that'll be the least of your worries I guess

I always felt that AD overheads sounded much more like real drums. A blend with Superior and AD would be awesome. THe toms and snares in Superior are awesome combined with OH of AD

Yeah, but Real drums aren't an option for some people, for me example, I can't play the drums
I don't have a drummer and even if I had one, I don't own the equipment to record them with
more than 2 mics...and than I would still need a room and a halfway decent kit and so on.

I use AD and really like it, a good friend of mine uses Superior and it's not my cup of tea, I know
many guys prefer it for faster heavier stuff but I just record my own shit and if I don't like the
kick, I can still use another sample for it but most of the time, I am just to lazy :D
It sounds better than every drumsound I could ever achieve and it's very user friendly imho.

Well i know... I have my own studio so im aware of that...

haha I wasn't saying that you didn't know that :)

Real drums aren't an option for me as well at the moment because I don't have the recording mics yet. But that'll be a matter of months.
On the other hand I can't drum as well so if I want to do some drumming shit myself, I just program them. Can't think of a better program than SD. I tried out AD and it's the complete opposite of you (wasn't my cup of tea haha).

No problem ;)
It's just about taste, imho, I heard awesome results and crappy results from all of them,
a mix of a few different products would be the best imho, but I am not able to buy me
anything else and I don't need it, the songs I record are my own stuff that sucks anyways
or the stuff from good friends with no money who just want something recorded, if they
want real drums, I have a friend who's able to record them or they should get me the
equipment and the room, otherwise we programm their stuff.

Same here.

It's a damn good set of samples but the VST itself could be better. Only three cymbals can be loaded at a time, although I've taken to using two instances to get more going, a man's gotta have his chinas and splashes right?

I'd suggest using the 16-out function which sends the individual drums out to the daw so you can use other vsts to process them...or you can do like I've been doing and just printing unprocessed tracks to audio files and then process them, much better on the cpu.

If you know how to get under the hood and go beyond the program so to speak, sure it's top-notch schtuff.

yeah, using the 16-out function all the time, it's pretty cool to just use another sample for the kick for example,
it's not that easy to get a kick for technical death metal with AD, but for most of the stuff I am doing it works
out pretty well (some bastard child of hatebreed, illdisposed and pantera that's pretty drunken).

This is what you can do with AD without replacing anything but the kick drum - which you have to do with S2.0 as well:

Really there is absolutely nothing wrong with AD's interface, I love it, I actually do all my processing inside of AD on the drums besides the kick. I send the kick out to a track in Cubase and run TRIGGER on it to replace the kick, otherwise everything else is totally inside AD. My only gripe with S2.0 these days, and it's really been with all of Toontrack's releases, is the snares just are not thick and full enough for my tastes, AD's snares are. Toms are honestly equal between the two. Cymbals are a toss up, I don't really have any issue with the sound of AD's cymbals, I just wish I could use more at a time like you can with S2.0, but I've made do with what I can use with no issues so far. For me, AD covers everything I need it for and does it really well.

Edit: StefTD: I don't have any problems doing tech death kick drum with AD and replacing it. Try the highpass filter in AD on the kick channel and the EQ so it's like a DDrum trigger sound (all clicking).

Yeah, I know, it's just a taste thing and that I am not able to get a good tech death sound from
the other instruments, too :D
Not a real problem from AD, more a problem with my skills...and I really love the sounds I get with
AD for modern rock stuff, it just works pretty well for the sounds I am after.
