Wow, so many smart things said, and I thought that the whole point of quad tracking was to get some meat with a guitar sound that sucked initially.

The most extreme of 'de-suck' treatments can have their uses on good tracks just the same... if you have the time, polish *everything* - worst case scenario, you still have the shiniest shit.
