Adrenaline Mob's new one sounds like....

Aeonic, maybe I don't listen to enough Godsmack or Disturbed or whatever to really compare. But when I hear this I get the same feeling as I do when those bands are playing somewhere (radio, party, etc.). The lyrics are so simple and dumb (but easy to digest), the main riff sounds about what I have heard from similar bands before.

The guitar solo is really weird, but quite cool. The dude has some chops. And that kind of guitar is certainly missing from most of the "alt-rock" bands that this sounds like (Breaking Benjamin and Ra come to mind as well...I had friends who loved them in college).

Ultimately, my feeling is that I just don't like this. It's not just because it *sounds* like those Ozzfest bands I've come to hate, but I certainly have that same feeling while Allen is singing "Come on! Get up!" "I guess you took one in the face." Awful.

This thread has lived longer than I thought it would! I'll just throw this out here....

Black Label Society? Maybe some of the early Corrosion of Conformity? The start is certainly wanting to be Eddie Van Halen.

That's my point though. Being a shredder clearly means neither jack nor shit if you can't actually write songs, and while I'm a huge fan of Russell Allen - I'm not going to listen to a record just because he's on it. A few people on this board have made the "X is such a good singer I can listen to him read the phone book" thing, but I never understood that personally.

I agree with that, I didn't think anything of Allen's solo album. But this is just good enough for me. But I do find myself just sitting waiting for the guitar solos a lot.

Ok, I made it to about a minute and a half. Wouldn't buy it, wouldn't steal it, but if they played it in the gym instead of the god awful tripe they usually pump out, I might be able to work out to it. That's about the only place it would work....maybe. :u-huh:

Really?? I fucking LOVED that Atomic Soul album. Sounded like a modernized Led Zeppelin, and this was years before all this 70's rock resurrection stuff we've got now. To each his own though.

Not a fan of the 70s. I'm an 80s guy. I love everything else he's done though, from Ayreon, to Avantasia, to Allen-Lande, to that little side project he's in with Michael Romeo....

Atomic Soul was one of the few cds that has received repetitive play for me over the years from the mighty Russell Allen. I couldn't get into the Allen/Lande disc, haven't been impressed by anything Sym X in the past 10 years, but Atomic Soul is great!

Mostly because the wife is a Russel Allen fan girl, we went to see Adrenaline Mob Saturday in Reading, PA. As I too am a fan of Russel's, I was hoping the music would be more fun live, than it is on record. It wasn't. We didn't even make it through the show before we headed home. The songs are just awful. Despite the fact that the songs are well executed and both the guitar player and bass player were giving it 110% on stage, there was no saving the show. Granted, the venue's sound did them no favors, but there's just no overcoming how bad these songs are.

Perhaps it's time for Russel to find something else to do when SX is not in a recording/touring cycle. There were (maybe) 125 people in attendance, on a beautiful Saturday night, in a venue that looked like it could have easily held four times as many. And many of those folks were related to the six opening bands, the hockey game or UFC fights. Whatever it is Adrenaline Mob thinks they're selling, very few people are buying. I think it's time to find greener pastures.

I like their new one. It's great background music. It has enough energy to keep me going. Orlando's written some tasty solos, Russell's sounding pretty good, and Moyer's fun to listen to.

then again, I really like Onslaught's VI.

I second Zod's thoughts. I think this is one of the worst current bands. The fact that Russell Allen truly stands behind it baffles me.

I bought the first project and even though I liked the second better, it wasn't enough to make me buy the CD. I think AMob, like allot of super groups, hasn't risen to the sum of the parts. I get more from what LePond and Pinella do elsewhere. Bummer on the small crowd but there you have it.

Gee, maybe this project is something that Russell actually wants to do, and is getting some enjoyment out of it? And maybe some extra cash....who knows? If A-Mob is where his heart is at right now, more power to him. If you don't like it, don't buy it....wait until he releases another album with Symphony X. It's not up to us to tell an artist how to handle his career.

That about covers it. I have zero interest in them, but as long as it doesn't affect Symphony X in any way I'm content to simply ignore them.

I don't know; maybe? And yes, more the power to him.

If you don't like it, don't buy it....

Duh, really?

It's not up to us to tell an artist how to handle his career.

Who's telling an artist how to handle their career? Can you find that person on the thread and point it to me?
