Advice needed (early to mid 80's metal sound)

@Guitarguru777: I actually think the drums sound much better on the Rattlehead and Haunting the Chapel vids you posted than did the later ones from those respective bands.
I can and do see where the OP is coming from in terms of "over-production". While newer recordings are certainly more technically advanced from an engineering perspective, I do think, as in the case of the Gojira vid, that this new found digital clarity does come at the expense of of a certain amount of individuality. Take the Misfits Earth AD album, by conventional standards this sounds horrible, but in terms of sheer heaviness, it is light years ahead of the majority of modern metal. Of course this is just my personal opinion, others, of course, will disagree with it, but there does seem to be a certain warmth to older 80s metal and hardcore records that is lacking in today's stuff. I've really notice this the most on the drum tracks. Just seems the newer stuff sounds so much more fake sounding.

We're real excited about it. We've hired a couple JCM 800's an 8 track and some mics and shit. I dont have a brain cell in my head but I'm determined to learn this medium or whatever it is. You guys have obviously been doing this for years and squabbling aside, I respect that. I dont respect the boy-band approach to metal but I respect that you're dedicated to music in some way.
Even if some of you make it sound like Fall Out Boy.
If we so much as dared replaced our drummers snare or kick drum in a mix he'd kill us! He's an awesome drummer, he doesn't need fake snare hits or fake whatever else. We're a tight band, like a fist, we never fuck up or make mistakes because we do things the old fashioned way. We're musicians, not performers.
All those gimmicks and gay things you're doing make bands lazy and sloppy. We've won several battle of the bands contests, I've personally won several guitar contests (and did so to get money and gear for my band) so I could care less what you all assume about us! I'm very happy and proud of what we've achieved and some miserable idiot online who I'll never ever meet or know personally is going to change that.
I'm never going to physically meet you people, you're strangers to me and you're expecting me to prove stuff to you like we're in highschool? lol dont make me laugh! You'll never be that relevant to me. Get over yourself! You're not my dad.
Anyway, I'll upload the results of our first attempt at recording things ourselves and share them here, yeah you'll tear them apart and attack them and blah blah blah because I made you piss pants yourselves or gave you an asthma attack or whatever but I could care less! There's bound to be a likeminded soul who'll read this thread and feel inspired by what we're trying to do.

I'd just like to agree with mr.Robert W, holy fuck To Mega Therion has some killer drums, and what a mix, shame about that godawful guitar tone, must have been some solid state monstrosity though.
How do mix like this? Greatest 80s throwback sound I've heard in a while, I'm guessing lotsa room, JCM800, the howling vocal is almost better than Warrior himself. That Yobbo accent makes it just the more filthy and menacing!
