The Grey EP was pretty bad yeah and from what I've heard from The White EP it is pretty standard neofolk, there are ALOT of better stuff in this vein out there so didn't bother to order it.

I actually tried listening to them numerous times before I started liking them, so I'd say it was definitely hard for me. Their music really doesn't knock you off your feet or anything. I think they have a very nice sound, but that's about all that makes them special. They're certainly not stellar songwriters. They have a bit too much in common with ambient music for me to consider them adequate as a metal band.

To be honest, I'm really interested to hear Agalloch taking a new direction, because I really don't think they were going anywhere with their original style.

And I don't think someone who listens to shite like ACDC, Dimmu Borgir, Therion and Nightwish is qualified to be commenting on their songwriting ability.

Go listen to the end of "Our Fortress Is Burning" and tell me that has nothing in common with ambient music.

I'm not saying they are an ambient band, but they're definitely more interested in creating ambience then they are in rocking.

Anyone who can't appreciate any of those bands has no idea what songwriting is.
