Airline Tickets

Man, I actually wish they'd charge people for carry-on luggage instead. I've never been on a flight where somebody with a carry-on bag didn't cause problems/delays for others. In fact, I'd be willing to pay a significant premium to ensure that those who can't understand the concept of "airplane etiquette" are not on the flight, or are at least dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
Even better would be a new policy: Those with no carry-on luggage get to exit the plane first.

I agree 100000% with you on this one. Too many people take those rolling suitcases on the plane, and can't figure out why they won't fit in the overhead bins. :bah:

Some people get really pissed when the flight attendants tell them that they have to check their luggage... oh well, not my problem!

The only time I have ever done carry-on only luggage was to ProgPower. Only a couple of days, no dress clothes, and taking the MARTA - that's all you really would want to carry! A very small suitcase that fits in the overhead bin with room to spare.

But normally I would check my luggage - especially for long trips or when casual business attire (nice shirt and pants) is required.

It's amazing what people think they can't live without when they pack. I have a small rolling suitcase that fits in all overhead bins if I think I can get away with not checking it (I just have to turn it sideways in the smaller jets that have four seats to an aisle) and if I can't fit everything I need in that and a small duffel bag, then I don't really need it. With the advent of the new baggage rules, I've eschewed the duffel bag for a mini backpack, which is purse-sized, and they've never charged me for bringing both on board, since the latter fits under a seat with room to spare.

I got my ticket from Phoenix back in March for $326.

However, I'm hoping that if the U.S. Airways / United merger goes through, they don't change the schedule on me.

you live in phoenix? why have we never hooked up for shows, god dammit? Here I am skipping shows left and right cause I have no one to go with :<

Yep - I'm in North Scottsdale.

I'll go alone to an occasional show...but I tend to miss shows left and right because I'm too old to stay up late during the week and then drag my butt to work the next morning!

I went to see "The Wedding Singer" at Gammage last Thursday, because that was the only night one of my friends could go. DAMN, I felt like crap on Friday!

We'll have to touch base next time something good rolls through, and I'll have to see if I can not be such a wimp. :)

I know this is a separate discussion and will probably have human rights organizations whining, but...

What about looking at a total weight for extra fees? You could have a scale by the airport, looking at the total of your luggage and yourself. Encourage people to weigh themselves at home to avoid surprises, and of course make it optional, with the option to avoid the scale and just pay the check-on fees.

I have a couple friends who have experienced being stuck in a seat next to an obese person in a seat much to small for them, and coming away with bruises from being pressed up against the window. If the obese person can make a case not to pay for two seats, can't the other person make a case for (minor) physical pain?

I don't know, I live in Canada...but if the US government wanted to punch the obesity crisis in the face, you'd think hitting people in the wallet would be a good incentive to change. And yes, change is possible...I have a degree in Kinesiology + Applied Health, government certs, etc, and know that "it's genetic" doesn't fly (98% of the time).

Well, it looks like the airlines are going to screw us all over again. American, United, Continetal have all announced mass layoffs and flight reductions starting in which month? September, what does that mean for us? Right now we can't say, but in some cases it may mean that if you have already booked your flight, by Sept it may not exsist, and that sucks big time. So stay up to date with your flight status if you have booked already, and if you haven't be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for a ticket.

I'm paying roughly $300 round trip from Cleveland on AirTran. That includes $12 for advance seat assignments. That's about $30 higher than last year.

on what airline?

If you go to Expedia TODAY the roundtrip fares from PHX to ATL are from $273(continenal, frontier) to $315 round trip. I can't believe that, your 482 miles further west and the tickets are $300 less than the ones from ELP, that just ain't fair.

Texas to Atlanta is very expensive, sadly. Hence why I didn't make it to your Madfest.

Rates are always cheapest on the airline's site. I use expedia to find tickets, then I go to the airline to order.
