Akercocke - Antichrist

I was very reluctant to listen to this album at first. My friend, whom is a huge Akercocke fan, kept telling me to listen to it, with such words as "its great bitch!". I succumbed to his wishes eventually and have given it a listen.

The Intro and the Summon The Antichrist are meh. I was about to turn it off, but felt I should give one more track a listen. Track 3 (Axiom)... wow. Tracks 3 - 9 on this album are just, wow. Pretty awesome shit actually. A bit avantegardish at times for a blackened death band. Also has some great ambient moments, and an electronic part on track that was pretty amusing. The last track is kinda lame though, but its a closer, so bleh.

I thought it was pretty great, too.

It's created a huge amount of publicity here after a N.I Christian group asked the B.B.C to mediate a debate between the band and themselves. All nonsense, really.

Yeah... The band is coming a long way. I am really not a fan of the first 3 albums. Words Unspoken was an interesting album... can't say it was good, but it definitely wasn't bad. And now Antichrist is totally changing my opinion on the band.

Might have to go back and listen to some of their back catalog now.

Also, the last 1:40 on My Apterous Angel, total headbanging moment.

oh come on, the album isnt THAT good. I liked it at first but it's nothing special. the mixing is absolute shit, too. horrible job, whoever did it.

I have to agree, I can't understand how they could adopt such a crap sound after the magnificient job done on Words that go Unspoken....

I STILL dont think the mix is that bad after hearing the whole album, but it is obviously a step down from the more polished sound of the last two. Chronozon is still my favourite, fantastic album.

Its a bit flat and bass heavy, but there are much worse out there.
