Balmog - Svmma Fide

Nasty shit. Might remind of the Icelandic black metal everyone gushes over (though from Spain.) album art drew me in on this one. Need the vinyl.

Reorganized and cleaned up my CD collection today. Came across this split, which I don't think I've actually listened to before. Both sides are really strong. I was especially impressed by the Dark Fury side, as I hadn't heard them before (while I know that most Ohtar stuff is gonna be good to great).

Well I have to say this must be my favorite album from 2014 because of one simple thing. I have listened to it so fucking many more times than any other album from that year. I didn't get it until late in the year so I'm not even sure I mentioned it before. Razor sharp black metal with just a hint of folkyness, just a hint of ambience, and a bit of traditional metal influence (this is what really gets me, I think) thrown in for good measure.

Satanic Warmaster - Fimbulwinter

Edit: I remember everyone speaking about how well executed Mgla's album was last year, this trumps it in every way, IMO.

Reggae is one of my favourite genres. Simple, repetitive, spiritual and soulful.
But I've noticed it's right up there with Country when it comes to genres metalheads generally hate.

I really like reggae. Got quite hook to The Congos and Max Romeo a few months back.

I just gave it a few listens this weekend. It surprised that there were a number of symphonic touches on it. Reminds me of early Dimmu Borgir at points. Not what I expect from SWM (granted, I only know of few of his early records).
